Homophobic bullying occurs when people behave or speak in a way that makes someone feel inferior because of their actual or perceived sexuality. Those who may be targeted to this type of bullying differentiate in their appearance, their behaviour and other physical traits or sometimes they have friends or family who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender.
The image of the ‘ideal’ family became the norm for everyone to compare their lives with. The women were happy homemakers who enjoyed cleaning and caring for the children while their husbands went off to work. The family appeared to be emotionally close and had minor problems that could be solved within time.

This teaching leads to major issues towards homosexuals in schools. Everyone from teachers to caretakers may show discrimination towards homosexual students and teachers while in school.
South Africa was ‘ on of the very first countries in the world to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and has one of the most progressive constitutions along with other legislation that outlaws discrimination based on sexual orientation in the workplace, and legalises same-sex marriages.
Homophobic bullying in schools can be problematic in a number of ways:
Children who experience this bullying have their education disrupted. They are unable to concentrate on lessons because of feelings of fear or anger. Their self-confidence is damaged and may never fulfil their academic potential.
It can be a particular problem for teenagers who are confused or unsure about their own developing sexuality. Some victims are driven to the edge of despair or beyond, with lasting consequences for their emotional health and development. Schools that ignore it, or deny its existence, are not helping young people to develop a concern for the welfare of minorities and tolerance of
