In Loye Youngs's essay, “Is Humiliation an Ethically Appropriate Response to Plagiarism?” Loye Young claims that the action he took against students who plagiarized is valid. He justifies his claim by listing his moral beliefs and using an example of Senator Joseph Biden plagiarism story. Six students were caught for a common act, they all submitted a plagiarized paper. Loye Young states that even after a well-reviewed and clear syllabus he is "surprised by how common and blatant plagiarism turned out to be" (Young, 191).
Professional environments such as jobs, school, or other organizations all share a common characteristic, each of which having their own sets of rules and regulations; among these could include something called an honor code, which is meant to be a promise to abide by certain rules, typically cheating in an academic setting. A lot of people want to believe that the honor code is taken seriously by at least most people, but the fact of the matter is that little to nothing is enforcing these “promises of honesty”. While many colleges implement honor codes as a means of ensuring academic integrity, it has proven to be ineffective and quite contradictory for a variety of reasons. A leading argument when addressing the failures of honor codes
Honor codes help to inspire students to have integrity. Many people were quick to criticize the idea of having an honor system due to the belief that plagiarism and cheating rates would just increase. Although that may be true in some cases, a 22-year old student on University of Virginia's Honor Committee stated "It's not like we are saying we hate you, it's just that we have standards here" (Source D) after many students were caught plagiarizing. These students were either expelled or dropped out; some even lost their diplomas. Donald L.
In the realm of Academia, an honor code often refers to a set of rules, either written or unwritten, which establish principles on dishonest practices, such as plagiarism and cheating. The goal of an honor code is to create an environment of trust and integrity between students and peers, as well as between students and teachers. Though some may argue that honor codes do the opposite by creating suspicion and distrust between students, I believe that implementing an honor code in my school would ultimately be beneficial to myself and my peers because it would help to foster an academic environment where students can trust each other, it would prevent peers that depend on cheating from being left behind, and would encourage participation of

In any school you have attended, plagiarism is a situation that a writer should not put themselves in under any circumstances. When reading the essay “Something Borrowed,” Malcolm Gladwell gave insight into the flaws of plagiarism that writers may not have thought about before. The first being that plagiarism is never acceptable (927). The second issue with plagiarism is recognizing the differences that can or cannot “inhibit creativity” (931). Being inspired by another person's work can help and guide you to build your own ideas, but simply taking their work and claiming it as yours is not permitted.
Riley Jones Religions of the same geographic origins tend to have similar codes of behavior and reasons that people exist today. A person traveling through the many regions of Asia may encounter the many religions and the beliefs of each religion. South Asia includes the religions of Hinduism and Buddhism, and East Asia has the religions of Confucianism and Taoism. South and East Asia’s religions focus more on the life around a follower and the path he chooses to take. These religions are centered around acceptable behaviors in the religion.
Honor codes are an important and controversial topics on the universities on America. Many professor and students defend honor codes, by saying that are creating a culture of trust, and are they are also created to stop plagiarisms. At the same time many professor and students are against honor codes by saying that, honor codes are outdated and that is not including the new culture that students behold and has not increase plagiarize Lynn Morton is a professor at Queens University, in charge of giving a speech ` `Choosing Honor`for the new students of the class of 2008. She starts her speech by welcoming them and telling them that she has a college student daughter, and why she is related to honor codes. As I engage this unit’s Read and Attend assignments, I find that my understanding of plagiarism is not as fully developed as I had previously thought. Our Unit 3 Attend assignment shares that “in a general sense plagiarism may be caused by carelessness” and these circumstances frequently precipitate the lack of care required while writing (Bethel University, 2014, p. 11). The academic integrity tutorial provided additional information which I found valuable as well. Common themes within each unit assignment provide strands of continuity, while assisting with a more comprehensive understanding. It is my opinion, the type of plagiarism that is hardest for me to avoid is “plagiaphrasing”, also known as “lazy paraphrasing” (Bethel University, 2014, p. 12).
Honor is what is said to drive the decision for expulsion, but was it just for the school. The school’s response to plagiarism wasn’t unfair, although it seemed harsh the school did it with thought of the narrator and the school in mind. The line between healthy imitation and plagiarism can be drawn between someone claiming to be the story and someone
Importance of Being Prepared “Scout’s Honor” by Avi is a realistic fiction short story about three boys who go on a camping trip by themselves, in a different state, for Boy Scouts. In the beginning, the main character doesn’t feel brave enough, so he goes on a camping trip with his two best friends. Soon, they realize they don’t really know what they are doing and where they need to go. In the end they all admit they aren’t brave enough, which made them braver. The boys were not mature enough, though.
My school would greatly benefit from the application of an honor code as long as such a code is approved by the student body. Such an honor code would bring about students to reconsider their actions before cheating on a test. This is because an honor code has the ability to create a culture among students which discourages cheating. Also, including harsh punishments within the honor code would dishearten students from cheating out of fear of potential consequences. Schools which have not benefited from honor codes are very different from Classical, and therefore do not prove that an honor code would be ineffective at Classical.
The honor code or honor systems is known by educators across the nation. The honor code is used to keep students from making bad decisions educational wise, for example, cheating and plagiarism, therefore, the honor is used to keep students inside the behavioral codes that the honor code has to offer. The honor code is very controversial because of the codes that the system delivers. The system is very influential to the students and creates a behavioral impact that allows the students to follow by the codes and to have complete freedom. The process of the honor code should be maintained due to the honesty and pledges of the students to increase their success.
An honor code or honor system is a set of rules or principles governing a community based on a set of rules or ideals that define what constitutes honorable behavior within that community. An honor code implements a set code that specifies certain rules in their school. An honor code doesn’t benefit students trust in their school system. An honor code can end up making students engage in mistrust, create misuse of the code, and can cause students to be at odds with each other. When students are forced to commit to an honor code, every student isn’t going to be 100% honest.
