Throughout the novel, Malala utilizes influential ethos while talking about how difficult it was for a girl to attend school in peace so that the audience will believe her story. For example, in the novel Malala states “The trips from school became tense and frightening, and I just wanted to relax once I was safe inside my home”. (Yousafzai,pg.62) This quote is included so that the reader will be able to perceive how she and the other girls felt while trying to obtain an education. Also, her purpose of
“Two Kinds” a short story out of Amy Tan’s book “The Joy Luck Club” is a representation of the pressures immigrant children face from their parents. In the story, we follow a young girl named Jing-Mei as she embarks down the road to becoming a Prodigy. Her mother believed that “you could be anything you wanted to be in America” (Tan). For Jing-Mei that meant her mother believed she could become instantly famous. “Of course, you can be a prodigy, too”, her mother told her (Tan).
“Mary Moon and the stars” written by Janice Galloway is a short story in which the main character Mary is who we “........................” This is due to the techniques the writer has used these include character, setting, language and symbolism. The author has used the appropriate techniques which results in her success. Mary is clearly restless and anxious when we are introduced to her on her first day of primary school. The unnamed narrator struggles to create a friendship with Mary as Mary is brutally judged by those around her, children and adults included.
For the Humans of Nipher Project I interviewed several students at Nipher on the hunt for the golden quote. A quote that represented not only the student but the whole Nipher community. You may ask “Why is she smiling if she 's scared about growing up?” Molly isn’t scared. She 's excited for the future, more freedom, more trust, having a later bedtime.

I started school¨(Ahmedi 35). Concluding that sometimes school is something more important about the school she holds dear. Connotating that school meant a lot more to her than the average person. But at the same time, it foreshadows the turning point in her life as she begins her adventure. Melba Beals was certainly full of grit. When she insisted on going back to school after segregationists were trying to keep her out the school, but she still insisted on going back to school to finish her classes and take her final exams. Even, after all, those people told her to get out yet she finished high school with pride. When Melba showed her grit, later on, people started encouraging her more saying she’s doing a great thing for this town (Beals 224). I thought this anecdote was important because it shows an example of how grit is used in the right context.
Lots of people say that middle school is hard, has lots of responsibilities and you have to be on time for everything. Then I thought there weren 't serious till I actually went to middle school myself. Soon after elementary I went to a middle school that I went to was called Lincoln middle school, it wasn’t a big school, but it was a decent school. When I first went into that building I was excited to make new friends and meet my teacher, but then this lady that was the 6th grade dean(consular) gave me this piece of paper that had many classes on it and I ask her “why there are so many classes?”
Malala Yousafzai was known for her inspirational speeches to speak out for women’s rights. How it’s looked down upon for women in the middle east to go to school. Yousafzai’s purpose is to raise awareness to spread the necessity of education throughout the whole world for both boys and girls. Therefore, Malala conveys her purpose of raising awareness the true struggle for an education in the middle east through credible ethos, contradicting juxtaposition, and affecting pathos. Malala is unfortunate to have experienced what she has first hand, but that builds her credibility and also her purpose she’s conveyed throughout her life.
Smile Smile by Raina Telgemeier is a book that talks about the challenges you can face during middle school. The author writes the book using her personal experience of 6th grade to high school. She is trying to let people know that there is many obstacles in life. A big part of your life includes you Middle School experience. The book’s character Raina Telgemeier happens to fall upon the many situations a Middle School can offer.

he muckraking novel, The Jungle, by Upton Sinclair does not only expose the secrets of the meat industry in Chicago in the early twentieth century, but tells of the hardships a family of Lithuanian immigrants had to go through when trying to create a better life in the United States. Even when the cold winter blew in and their lives in America were not off to the greatest start, “...the germ of hope was not to be kept from sprouting in their hearts” (Sinclair 69). Jurgis and his family go through many ups and downs as the novel continues, but their determination never diminishes as each person tries their hardest to find a good job and keep a high spirit.
