There are also many synonyms of loyalty, for example, honesty, obedience, reliability, and trustworthiness. In the novel, “ House of the Red Fish “ Tomi has many loyal friends and he has to be loyal to his family name. In the first place, loyalty has many definitions. On Google, the definition is “ the quality of being loyal to someone or something ” this is similar to the definition on dictionary.com “ the state or quality of being loyal; faithfulness to commitments or obligations.” All of the definitions on the internet or in a hard copy dictionary all say the same thing, loyalty is being loyal to someone/something and committing to them fully. …show more content…
Some of these synonyms include, honesty “the quality or fact of being honest; uprightness and fairness”, obedience “the act or practice of obeying; dutiful or submissive compliance”, reliability “the ability to be relied on or depended on, as for accuracy, honesty, or achievement”, and trustworthiness “deserving of trust or confidence; dependable; reliable”. Reliability and trustworthiness already have a similar meaning, but they both play into the meaning of loyalty in a comparable way. Being loyal is being faithful and having a commitment to a relationship. In Nancy Farmer’s science fiction novel The House of the Scorpion, Matt, the main character, always finds himself in a new home and making new relationships with a base of trust and loyalty. Matt is a clone of a powerful drug lord named El Patrón. Matt leaves his first home because he realizes El Patrón has been lying to him his whole life. He runs away to an orphanage where he find new friends who stay loyal to him.

Throughout the book, Robin Hood was always loyal to the people of Nottingham, by giving them food, money, and helping them when they needed help. Another definition of loyalty is, “Loyalty is the feeling of allegiance to a course of action. Heroes in stories are known for their act of extreme loyalty where they even risk their life to save someone close to them. Robin Hood and his friends are examples of heroes with intense loyalty” (Speed Up Career).
Devotion. Devotion is one word that can take many forms. People can be devoted to many different things: friends, family, work, and past times. What does it mean to be devoted? Being devoted is defined as love, loyalty, or enthusiasm for a person, activity, or cause.

What is being loyal to someone, how can it be seen? Why is it that when one is betrayed, that is all that they think about night and day? The truth is loyalty cannot be seen but only felt between people who have faith within one another. As for betrayal, it can affect one so severely that it cannot leave their mind, especially if a loved one has caused it. In “Choices” by Susan Kerslake and “The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury, the authors suggest that a person can change based solely on their needs, and question their ability to stay loyal or betray.
In the epic, The Odyssey, the epic hero in the story exhibits heroic traits, the most important I think is loyalty. In the first episode, it shows loyalty when they are at the land of the Lotus Eaters. The three men that Odysseus brings along, want to stay with the Lotus Eaters because they are so addicted to the drug. Odysseus must literally drag the men to the ship and tie them up for them to be able to not stay on the island of the Lotus Eaters.

Loyalty was presented in so many ways in this book. Ruth was not only loyal to Naomi and God, but Boaz was loyal to Ruth by going to marry her through every circumstance. Those are the 3 instances in the story where loyalty is prominent.

Along with the evolution of society came the evolution of language and literature. Tales strayed away from slaying beasts from far away and focused more on the life of common figures and the lessons to be learned from them. Knights were a particularly popular subject matter as were common figures that maintained a presence in society. However, the end goal in any Medieval literature was to tell a story that had a lesson to be learned; a moral.

In Animal Farm, by George Orwell, a farm run by Mr. Jones has been overthrown by the animals who have started a rebellion. The motivation for the rebellion was the belief that the animals should be human rule and would now receive what they labored for instead of the humans running the farm taking away the majority. Now that the animals have overthrown the humans from the farm, they have pronounced to the rest of the country and to neighboring farms that animals could run a farm by themselves.
