The water quality of UHS creek is 42, which is excellent. However, not all water has excellent water quality. Humans can negatively impact in many ways. One way humans can negatively impact the water is by animal waste. “Animal wastes create water pollution, such as when cattle or sheep are allowed to graze near streams. Wastes deposited by the animals can introduce nutrients and disease-causing organisms into the water, posing problems for aquatic organisms as well as human populations that use the water.” Another way that humans can negatively impact the water quality is by fertilizers and pesticides being put into the water. When this happens it can make the nitrogen and phosphorus levels increase which can be lethal to the organisms in …show more content…
One solution is to have a riparian zone. This is known as a natural solution. A riparian zone is when you allow the natural vegetation to grow around the water. The roots of the plants will hold the soil and not allow for the bank to erode. Then when it rains and water is running off into the creek or river the riparian zone can filter out the pollutants that the rain water can pick up and would have put into the water source without the riparian zone. There are many pros to a riparian zone. One of those pros is that can reduce carbon emissions made by an urban area. Another pro is that it can create food and habitats for animals to live there. There are some cons. One of those cons is that it might take time for change to happen. Another con is that there “may need long-term change in land use.” Land use means things like mowing it or gardening. Another solution is using oyster mushrooms. This is a technological solution. The way oyster mushroom can be used is because they can digest complex hydrocarbons from wood it can take petroleum byproducts. There are some pros to growing
Why? It’s because, the chemicals goes into the soil and makes runoff from the stormwater, and gets into the water, and pollutes it. The chemicals make the water polluted, which also harms the wildlife. Other things including sediments, dirt, and muck also get in the water
On October 8th, 2015 our class took a field trip to the Conodoguinet Creek to test the water quality. We did 3 experiments to help us conclude the quality. During the first experiment we observed the different types of organisms in the creek. We also took tests for eutrophication in the water. Another experiment we performed were acidity tests.
I hypothesized that the Conodoguinet Creek is polluted. Through my research I have found that the Conodoguinet Creek is not polluted. One reason it is not polluted is because most of the macroinvertebrates and crustaceans we found in the creek are pollution sensitive creatures. Another reason the creek is not polluted is the level of acidity and alkalinity is 7 which is a healthy number on the pH scale. If the acidity or alkalinity levels were high scientists would have to find a way to neutralize the acid and alkaline.
The evidence that this proposal would not be beneficial was shown in Biello’s article. Climatologists advise burning of fossil fuels will adversely affect climate change. The amount of greenhouse gases in the air will increase. With no control of temperature, the water level in oceans will rise higher and higher each day. With this in mind, people have been strictly against the pipeline.
My 8th grade class went to the Conodoguinet creek to test if there was any pollution in the creek water. Before we went my hypothesis was, “If we go to the Conodoguinet creek and test the water, then the creek will have little to any pollution in it because we haven’t had a monstrous storm in the past few months so there wouldn’t be an excessive amount of acid rainfall or runoff” There are three types of macroinvertebrates ( an invertebrate fauna - animal of a particular region - that can be captured by a soo - which is a certain net or sieve - ) that we were looking for, Group 1 ( which is pollution sensitive - they cannot have any pollution- ), Group 2 ( which is somewhat pollution tolerant - they can live with some pollution-) and Group
Runoff in streams and rivers is a massive problem in the Southeastern United States, along with other parts of the world. While each area has different elevations, soil types, and vegetation, it shows that it is a constant problem that all areas show. The definition of runoff can be complicated or simple, depending on the person who explains it. The effects of runoff, seen throughout the different areas, can affect the ecosystem. The ecosystem can be affected by the leading cause of runoff, erosion.
This was all perfectly normal and wouldn’t have any negative affects if the same growth continued. (H. Staff, The Great
By fracking for natural gas and shifting from coal to natural gas power generation plants, we could benefit economically, save our environment, and save millions of gallons of
(Duerksen C. J. & Snyder C. (2005). However, it is important to note that numerous agencies in Austin have made significant contributions and achieved positive outcomes. These agencies have demonstrated commendable work in their respective areas of focus. Their efforts have played a crucial role in implementing effective nature-friendly programs and initiatives, highlighting their dedication to environmental preservation and sustainability in the city. During the development approval process, Austin employs several restrictions to safeguard open space and natural resources.
We will save the nature on this way and we can make a lot free land back to the nature let them fix them
Oceans are being polluted by substances such as farm fertilizers, chemicals produced in factories, and harmful sewage from towns and cities (Claybourne 38). Trash and debris, especially plastics, are deposited into the oceans by humans. These objects can be mistaken as food by many species, which eventually leads to death. When species consume what looks like to be food, but in reality is hazardous waste, the animal contains that chemical inside of them. When a larger animal consumes the hazardous animal, it affects the entire food chain (“What Is Ocean”).
Physical observations such as observing the grasses, the rapids, and looking for birds nearby can also indicate good water quality. It is important to test the health of the river because the Susquehanna greatly affects all of those who live near it. All of the tests done show that the quality of the Susquehanna river is overall very healthy.
How Healthy is the Conodoguinet Creek? Member of Enola Community: I have conducted an experiment on whether the Conodoguinet Creek is either polluted or healthy. The Conodoguinet Creek can get polluted by livestock. The livestock could possibly use the creek as a water source or as a restroom.
Water Pollution is a huge environmental problem that has serious effects on marine habitats, animals, and water quality. BP1: The world's marine habitat has been getting worse because of how bad the pollution has gotten. “ Over 80% of marine pollution comes from land based activities “ (source 5 ). This quote explains how most of the water pollution is caused by human activity. “ Plastic litter does not degrade, can be expected to last in the oceans for hundreds of years “ ( source 6 ).
First and most importantly, fossil fuels are a nonrenewable resource that we are using up very quickly. There must
