Are nuclear power plants the most viable source of energy?
Nuclear power is a highly useful source of energy. In our world, technology is on the increase and as a result many people have been searching for the most effective way to produce energy. We will need electricity to power a significant number of these new and improved technologies. However, scientists are becoming increasingly more aware of the impact our thirst for power has on the Earth. Global warming, caused by the release of excesses of CO2 into the atmosphere, can be linked directly to the combustion of coal, oil and natural gas. As our main sources of energy release these harmful gases, new environmentally friendly, renewable energy sources have made their way to the forefront of production. Yet one of the most efficient methods used to produce energy isn't being utilized to the capacity in which it is capable of. In order to uphold our society's need for more energy, more nuclear power plants should be funded.

Nuclear power plantations, once built, will have a longer lifespan than any other source. However, they do not have a fixed life expectancy it is estimated that a reactor will last 30 to 40 years, being reevaluated each 10 years. They do not need to be continually renewed or repaired to the same extent as a wind farm. A wind turbine is expected to have an efficient working life of 12 to 15 years, during this time they need to be repaired and decrease in efficiency as they age. Although there are debates that the life span of nuclear power sources such as Uranium is low and is comparable to oil, this do not pose a threat as nuclear energy can be recycled. In addition, nuclear power plant only emits hot water into the environment which makes it environmental friendly. In fact, little or almost no carbon dioxide is being released into the atmosphere.

Humanity needs a lot of energy. It is needed for light, heat, transport and food in everyday life. Recently, nuclear power is seen as a potential alternative source of great amounts of energy supply. Many critics argue that nuclear power is a finite resource while renewable sources such as solar energy, wind power, biomass, hydroelectric and geothermal energy are limitless. Although these infinitely renewable energy sources are important to energy sustainability in the distant future, none of these energy sources have been developed well enough to provide a significant portion of the world’s energy needs at competitive prices.
