The progressive era constituted a major force in calling for the protection of human rights and promoting reform. Rapid industrialization and unplanned urbanization constituted a threat to democratic values. Various women were inspired to participate actively in society and work toward changing their social and economic status and achieving freedom. Freedom was the core value of this social movement. Title IX When Title IX was passed, one in twenty-one high schools girls played a sport. Most people think Title IX only applies to sports, but athletics is one of the many areas addressed by the law. Women were not able to pursue their dreams as much as men. They were not able to show their true talent that most women had. Even though Title IX stated that no one should be denied benefits all over the world systems were still not up to par and were not equally fair.

The Reconstruction Era occurred in 1865, it was was a period after the Civil War in which America was focused on rebuilding the broken South. In 1867, the Radical reconstruction gave former slaves a voice in government. During this era, formers slaves gained a platform in the government, with some blacks as Congressmen. However, not everyone supported the idea of Reconstruction. Less than a decade after the Reconstruction period, a small group composed of democratic ex-confederate veterans, white farmers and white southerners sympathetic to white supremacy joined forces together to form the Ku Klux Klan.

In the 1900’s, life started to changed for women; they started to gain a higher position in society, they were able to demand more rights and they started thinking and acting freely and independently. Although the process towards women’s rights was challenging, it was all worth it for future generations once the 19th Amendment was ratified. Starting of by the famous Seneca Falls Convention, the fight for women’s rights began. Many attempts were made to fight the oppression like conventions, campaigns, people, propaganda, etc. It was a very long and harsh process to gain their rights; women witnessed other races overcoming discrimination while they were still ignored.

When historical events are published it is mainly because these events have importance. The 19th amendment allowed women to have a voice which is why this topic is popular.
