Bill Gates is one of the richest men in the world, yet he is also one of the most selfless; a very rare trait for most billionaires. Bill Gates impacted America with the invention of an easy operating system so that everyone in the country could use a computer, and with the charities he donated to with the money he made from his company. Bill Gates’ main impact on society was making computers available and easy to use for everyone. Before computers were something people carried around in their pockets, they were very complicated machines that only trained people could use. Bill Gates’ company, Microsoft changed this by making them personal. This made it so that computers were much more widely available to the everyday person. His impact started in the 90’s when his company, Microsoft, released their early operating system, Windows ‘95. In 1975 Gates, a student at Harvard University, joined his best friend Paul Allen to develop software for the first microcomputers.…show more content…
This was the start of revolution, and by virtue of the massive number of Windows users, must have played a big part in boosting the adoption of online services. Windows 95 marked a new way of doing things. The “Start” button, which dominated the advertising campaign, was a focus for many. People had never seen this before on a computer, and it made it a lot easier for someone who’s never touched a computer before use one. Also crucial in the Windows 95 success story was the taskbar. Although this seems like nothing now, This was new for computers, and didn’t have a rival in companies. Being able to see all your open apps on the bottom of the screen was pretty amazing, and Windows ‘95 was able to multitask too, so this was an important way for users to keep track of what they were doing.
