Christopher Columbus discovered the new world on August 3, 1942 under the sponsorship of the Spanish Monarchy of Isabella and Ferdinand (Present day Spain). Before he was sponsored by Isabella and Ferdinand, however, he went to Portugal the leading sea explorers of the time and asked John II to sponsor his voyage. Isabella and Ferdinand were the only ones that would sponsor his dangerous 31 day trip across the Atlantic ocean in search of a faster route to Asia to get spices. The king called in experts like astronomers and mathematicians to judge the proposal. They turned Columbus down believing that the distances were much farther than Columbus thought.
Eventually Columbus got all of the ships and money that he needed for his first voyage from Spain’s Queen Isabella. Later on, he had reached the opportunity to achieve his main goal that was caused by selfishness, he wanted to become rich. Queen Isabella was also just as selfish as Columbus was. The only reason that
He wasn’t even the first European to visit the “New World” (America). Columbus was the one who started the exploration and the exploitation of the American continents. Today he was a mixed legacy because he is remembered as a great explorer who transformed the New World, but his actions caused changes that would eventually devastate the native populations that him and his fellow explorers
Columbus was an Italian explorer born in 1451 in Genoa. After developing a plan to find an easier and new way to Asia, in 1485, Columbus presented his plans to King John II of Portugal. The king submitted Columbus's proposal to his experts, who rejected it. Columbus had persisted in demonstrating his project to the court of Portugal twice. However, with Portugal, Genoa and Venice’s rejection, he resorted to Ferdinand and Isabella, the king and queen of Spain, who accepted to financially aid him in his journey.
It is evident that Babur did not have any religious ambitions in establishing the Mughal Empire. However, the Ottoman had clear motivations to create an Islamic Empire with heavy religious inspirations. Once the Ottoman had begun to control Anatolia and the Balkans, they looked towards Constantinople. They knew that they would be able to greatly expand the empire once they captured the city. By 1453 the Ottomans finally captured the city under Mehmed II’s rule.
In 1492, supported by Spain and tasked with finding a westward route to Asia by sea and negotiate trade agreements, Christopher Columbus discovered the New World. After two more voyages to the New World, Columbus died in 1506 thinking he had discovered a route to Asia. Not until another explorer by the name of Amerigo Vespucci came to South America, did the Europeans discover they had stumbled upon an entirely different continent. Entry 2 Where did the Spanish settle in the New World?
When I let Columbus go, I expected some spices and maybe gold. However, when he came back, he brought six foreign Indians, cages of multi-colored parrots, baskets of exotic plants, thread, and to my great happiness, gold. Obviously, Columbus was only trying to do good. He never intended to hurt
In the year 1620 English colonists or Pilgrims arrived on the shore of the Cape Cod Bay in America, quite a long distance from England. America at that times was known as the New World since many boarded the Mayflower (ship that sailed to America from England carrying supplies and 101 people) to escape from religious persecution, others simply came in order to take part in a new economic enterprise. These were the first people to start the colonization of America however they did face constant difficulties that come with starting all over in a far away place. Yet still despite the horrible conditions the people faced they still chose to continue and deal with those hardships rather than give up. It is seen in Verlyn Klinkenborg’s article “Why was Life so Hard For the Pilgrims?” that the colonists faced many dangerous circumstances and difficulties.
However, finding the Spice Island was not so easy so the Dutch needed help from the locals. When the Portuguese went away from Indonesia, the Dutch had a chance to monopolize the commodities like spices. Kings and princes used to rule their own territories and commodities before the Dutch came. In 1602, the Dutch founded VOC (Vereenidge Oost- Indische Compagnie) or Dutch East India Company that the purpose was to gain as much money as possible. According to Epic World History, the VOC was permitted by the Dutch government to have diplomatic relations and to have foreign powers so they are allowed to have military actions and have their own weapons.
The Darien Scheme was an official over-seas trading scheme set up to help Scotland trade with the Americas. Scotland decided they needed to set up a colony in the Americas, so they chose Darien. The Scots created this scheme because after the union of the crowns the scots found it very challenging to trade with the rest of Europe as the English enemies had now become Scotland’s enemies too and the Navigation Acts stated that Scotland could not trade with any English colonies. The scots thrust £400 000 into the Darien scheme which was nearly all the governments money plus donations. They chose Darien as the ideal trading spot because it was in-between the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean meaning they could go to India by cutting through America.
Constantinople fell to the Ottomans and the European trade routes to Asia closed down. In 1492, Christopher Columbus sailed from Europe to the Americas thinking he was going to India. He arrived in India, which was actually the Caribbean, and called the Native Americans “Indians”. Christopher Columbus went back to Europe and told people. When the word got out Christopher Columbus and his fellow went back to the Americas.
Christopher Columbus is the most famous explorer because he discovered the americas and made friends with the native americans. And now in the united states we have a columbus day to celebrate him. But what if I said that everything you know about columbus was false. He did not discover the americas first, he treated the native americans extremely poorly and he added no additional knowledge. Columbus’ goal was to spread religion to the natives and make peace with them, but that did not go the way it was supposed to.
