Christopher Columbus, a Spanish captain who sailed to find new found land for the King and Queen of Spain. Columbus was a unique person in the middle Ages. Columbus was not born into the richest family but he was able to teach himself on how to sail and navigate the sea just by working on boats at a very young age. He was a man that worked very hard to earn the rank of captain of the seas, with this rank he became famous in European and American history and change the meaning of sailing. Christopher was born in the republic of Genoa, Italy on May 20, 1451.
Christopher Columbus as we know is the historical person credited for the discovery of the New World. Zheng He was a Hui-Chinese mariner, explorer, diplomat and fleet admiral, who commanded voyages to Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and East Africa. Each men and their fleets had two completely different reason for their travel. Christopher Columbus purpose was to find a new trade way to the Asian countries. Zheng He's purpose was to enlarge empires control of seaway trade.
Christopher Columbus was one of the greatest explorers known to man. Columbus had many different reasons for his explorations. Later, the main reason for his explorations was selfishness. Just like many other explorers before Columbus, he wanted land, he wanted power, and he also wanted gold. The reason for his very first voyage to what he thought was India, but later was found out to be Central America, was to get land for Spain.

In reality Christopher was trying to get to China and thought he was in Japan all 4 times he went to North America. He was actually in what is now the Bahamas and Cuba. The Age of Exploration, starting from the 15th century and lasting until the beginning of the 17th century, was a period of time in which the Europeans explored the Americas and Africa while searching for a more efficient trade route with Asia. However, the Europeans did not just discover this lands, but also made use of them and the native population. The causes of the Age of Exploration were “God, Gold and Glory” which effects were the expansion of Christianity, importation of precious resources into Europe and colonization of new lands. The first cause of the Age of Exploration was “God” which resulted in an expansion of Christianity.
An Italian explorer responsible for the European discovery of America in 1492. Columbus wanted to sail across the ocean to find Asia and all the riches they had. Columbus never reached Asia because he sailed west across the Atlantic instead of sailing south around Africa and then east. Although Columbus did not ever reach Asia he landed on a small island in the Caribbean. Columbus named that island San Salvador.
In 1445, he sent a navigator named Alvise da Cadamosto on an expedition in west Africa in 1456. He sailed up The Gambia River to the Gene River and tried to trade with the Africans, but did not succeed. In 1458, Henry The Navigator sent Diogo Gomes on an expedition that reached Cape Palmas. Henry The Navigator died the same year the expedition returned in 1460. Portugal had become a strong sea coping nation with extraordinary income from sea trading routes because of Henry The Navigator.
Some say Christopher Columbus was a hero because he was the explorer that discovered America. In reality, Christopher Columbus had an incredibly negative impact on the world because he enslaved the Native Americans, didn’t help the kind Natives when they got infected by diseases that the Spaniards had brought to America, and killed off most of the Native American population. The tactics he chose to use were violent and destructive by the standards back then and now. First, Columbus treated the Native Americans like uncivilized people by enslaving them and forcing them to work for him although they greeted him and his crew peacefully. ” They could make fine servants,”(document 2) he wrote in his journal,”I took them by force.
Christopher was an Italian navigator who sailed in the service of Spain. He is well-known as the founder of the New World, America. Columbus was searching for a westward route towards Asia by sea. Although Columbus failed to find the route, his discoveries along the way were much more valuable.
The Columbian Exchange was created for cultural and biological exchanges between the Old and New worlds. It was strictly a sea trade system that began in the 1500’s by Christopher Columbus to trade several items. The trade included a variety of animals, plants, human populations, diseases, technology and traditions or ideas. The exchange of these items impacted everyone on both sides of the Atlantic on several aspects. Christopher Columbus discovered the New World in 1492 and claimed ownership.

Christopher Columbus is a man who is commonly depicted as a hero and great explorer who discovered our modern day America, but many of the so called “facts” are not all completely true as people would like to believe. Columbus was undoubtedly a courageous explorer who brought many new ideas, cultures, and resources to be exchanged between the New World and Europe. While this is true, it is not uncommon for people to forget the harmful effects brought along with the voyages made by Columbus and the darker details of his times in America. Columbus started from humble middle class family. Columbus was born in 1451 in the Republic of Genoa as the oldest of his four siblings.

Therefore, this had happened because Christopher Columbus was trying to figure out a shorter route to get to the other side of Europe. In addition, this is important because, he was the explorer who found America. He had explored in the years of 1492, 1493, 1498 and 1502.
