One of the famous Europeans explorer is Christopher Columbus. He born between October 31st 1450 and October 30th 1451, Genoa and died May, 20th 1506. He is one of the pioneer to explore the Americas. Columbus spent nearly thirty years to explore new territories. Most of the region was Americas. Columbus?s exploration divided four different time frames. First time was 1492 to 1493, Second time was fall 1493 and about end 1496 the third and fourth time was 1502. The purpose of his exploration is to find to territories, new resources and new people.
European explorers and conquistadors during the age of exploration were motivated by three things: God, gold and glory. The two most prominent of the three between 1492 and 1607 were gold and glory. Beginning in 1492 gold motivated many explorers, from Christopher Columbus’s voyage to the New World to the Virginia Company’s colonization of America. Gold is a symbol for wealth, and many explorers soon realized the New World’s potential for wealth. The Spanish’s interest in wealth inspired Columbus’s expedition in the first place, as he was sent to India to trade for spices. Columbus reportedly traded pieces of his ship for gold, and was given a golden mask by a native chief. He later said in court (believing he had reached India) “There are many spices, and great mines of gold and other metals…”. After learning of the untapped natural resources and potential for wealth, European nations created an exploration frenzy, with constant voyages to the new world. The nations which sponsored these expeditions would give the explorers a cut of all the gold they found, which helped motivate conquistadors to make the long and treacherous journey to the New World. These explorers knew gold would bring wealth and power to them and their country, in addition to achieving tremendous glory for both.
Christopher Columbus was an explorer and navigator born in 1451 in Genoa, Italy. When Christopher Columbus crossed the Atlantic Ocean from Spain in 1492, he hoped to reach eastern Asia. He thought he had reached Asia when he landed on an island in the Caribbean Sea. In fact he had opened up to Europeans a new world with two continents—North America and South America—and many islands.
The Age of Exploration is what causes Americans to now celebrate Columbus Day. The Age of Exploration inspired Christopher Columbus to sail west to find the Northwest Passage and wealth. Although it is believed that Columbus was not the first to make it to the New World his discovery caused massive change. The Age of Exploration sparked by the desire of more successful trade routes and goods set off the momentous, Colombian Exchange which led to the spread of disease and swop of animals as well as crops.
An Italian explorer responsible for the European discovery of America in 1492. Columbus wanted to sail across the ocean to find Asia and all the riches they had. Columbus never reached Asia because he sailed west across the Atlantic instead of sailing south around Africa and then east. Although Columbus did not ever reach Asia he landed on a small island in the Caribbean. Columbus named that island San Salvador.
The European exploration happened due to God, glory, gold, and advanced technology. God led to exploration because they wanted to spread Christianity. Glory led to exploration because they wanted to be know as an explorer. Gold led to exploration because they wanted to trade with other countries to get money in return for valuable items or get valuable items in return for money. But the most influential thing that led to exploration was advanced technology. The caravel, astrolabe, magnetic compass, and cartography were all technological advances. The caravel allowed them to effectively sail against the wind and was sturdier than the vessels before. Astrolabe was a brass circle marked off with degrees and the rings on it were used to sight the stars. Once they sighted the stars they were able to calculate their latitude. The magnetic compass was used to help explorers more accurately track direction. Cartography was the skill of mapmaking and maps were made faster by using the printing press. In conclusion God, glory, gold, and advanced technology led to European exploration.
He came across new trade routes and wanted to obtain Africa’s resources for Portugal. He also wanted to explore to find the legendary Christian empire of the priest-king PresterJohn which ended up not existing. Henry The Navigator was one of the initiators of the Age of Discovery, he was not a Navigator but he did sponsor many explorations. Henry The Navigator was addressed as the governor of the Algarve.

Portugal, Spain, England, Holland, and France immediately set forth to claim land and set up a colonization in the New Worlds. Explorers such as Jacques Cartier, Francisco Pizzaro, Francisco Vasquez De Coronado, and Hernando Cortes were all looking for land to claim.
