Locke wants people to stand up for the rights that they deserved. Jefferson wanted to create a government contract for the people, which would allow for them to become an independent nation. Locke’s declaration creates revolts and made the American people start thinking about what they wanted for themselves. His declaration caused damage to the great nation until Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence which united the people. The social contract in John Locke’s declaration is the State of Nature.
John Locke was an extraordinary man doing something no one could do in his time. He spoke of the right to life, liberty, and property. He believed everyone had the same rights. And that slavery put people under absolute power under another person, which he thought unfair. It did not matter what race or religion you followed; however, he believed atheists were a threat.
Although United States of America is a country with only about two hundred and fifty years history, it has been the world’s greatest country for decades. The merit that the United States of America has been developing so fast is attributed to one of its founding fathers, Thomas Jefferson, whose government philosophy influences America for centuries. After liberating the people from the British tyrant king, Jefferson intends to build a government that follow the people’s will, that governs strictly according to the law and that secures certain alienable rights because he wants to give those people who suffer from the tyrant’s totalitarianism a utterly different future. Therefore, Jefferson’s government philosophy is embodied in three major
John Locke was an English Philosopher whose belief on government and the people challenged the long-established ways of thinking about society and government, but influenced the founding fathers especially Thomas Jefferson who to put Locke’s ideas into his own document about the foundation of the United States. The Glorious Revolution in England during the late 1600s that John Locke witnessed, compelled him to write the Two Treatise of Government, integrating his beliefs that “the state of nature has the law of nature to govern it … all men are equal” in his work of political philosophy (Locke 1). Locke suggests that humans are not inferior to each other even though Absolutism was the traditional way of ruling. He believed that the human government should not be based off of divine right, but should be based off of human nature. Locke argued that since everyone holds the executive capacity of the natural laws, all people should be respected of the rights that they have as individuals.
It is understood that John Locke played a key role of influence on Thomas Jefferson. This influence can be seen through Jefferson’s writing on the nation’s founding document. This document is called the Declaration of Independence. John Locke, the English Enlightenment philosopher wrote his Two Treatises of Government to refute the belief that kings ruled by divine right and to support the Glorious Revolution of 1688 (Doc 1). This piece of political philosophy provided many explanations for the people’s rights and obligations to overthrow a corrupt government.

He believed that rulers should take care of the people and he defined the government as a relationship between the king and the people. He wrote the Second Treatise of Civil Government (1690) which says that people have give political ability to the king, but they still have the privilege of life, freedom, and possessions. Furthermore, in his second treatise, John Locke argued that a ruler’s power is obtained through their people.
The American Constitution stands on the principles and ideals of ancient, notable philosophers such as John Locke and Thomas Hobbes. Their ideas and theories lead to the development of one of the strongest nations in the world. Believing the best form of government is a democracy, John Locke expressed an optimistic and positive view of the nature of human beings describing them as cooperative and social creatures. On the other hand, Thomas Hobbes had a pessimistic view of the nature of human beings, describing them as selfish and war-like, and favored a total monarchy. Furthermore, although they have opposing views on human nature, they both have valid points.
Locke’s influence on Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence All individuals are created equal. This is one of the many ideas the United States is built on. This concept existed long before the Declaration of Independence was written. This idea was introduced by John Locke who was an Enlightenment thinker. The declaration of Independence is where Americans declared their rights.
John Lewis made a lot of change for equality for people of color. He made sure they had a voice and used his platform to do so. Lewis had a lot of power in the government and used that as a way to get his point across. Lewis worked and worked to get civil rights and voting rights for black people. John Lewis had many ways to work for change; he protested non-violently and peacefully.
Thomas Jefferson was the author of the Declaration of Independence. The document focuses on natural rights because British government was depriving the colonists of natural equality and liberty. In the Declaration of Independence he wrote “ all men are crated equal” (white men) and it's their God-given right to choose their own government. The government derives “their just power from the consent of the people “ who have the right to “alter or abolish” those governments that deny people their right to “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness”. King George III had no right to impose an “absolute Tyranny over these States” in America.
