Marilyn Mason and how he has impacted society Anyone and anything can be misinterpreted. Anyone can look at a picture of Jesus dying on the cross and say "this is an image of murder and is depicted the act of violence that has sexual imagery in it." If I were to look at him at first glance I would probably be petrified. And I know the whole "don't judge a book by its cover" comes into play, but honestly, if a guy dressed in all black women's clothing, covered in jewelry and milky white irises approached me, I wouldn't exactly be delighted. His concerts consist of rape, satanic sacrifices and rituals, sex and a whole lot of drugs, and believe it or not, but people actually pay to go and participate. His target audience has always been disaffected …show more content…
He has created a reflection of society at its most dysfunctional and superficial level and has mirrored it in a way where its ugliness reflects back onto it. If you are unhappy with what Marilyn Manson represents, I think the first place we need to look is where exactly his inspiration came from. Fact of the day: his name isn't actually Marilyn Manson. It's Brian Warner. The first article he had ever written was about a character called Marilyn Manson back in college. Marilyn as in Marilyn Monroe, and Manson as in Charles Manson; both of them being two complete opposites in society. I have personally found his music to be very therapeutic. Music has always been a very big part of my life. Manson's music is mainly heavy metal and rock, which isn't exactly my cup of tea. This, however, doesn't stop me from listening to covers of his songs that are far more… softer. The thing that really stands out to me regarding music is that people will listen to the music they listen to because it corresponds to how they feel. They do not listen to music they cannot relate to, and then have their perspectives changed. They listen to what they are listening to because of how they are already
It opened doors for more genres to mix. His music also made it more acceptable to say you were just an artist instead of having to explain what genre you were a part of.
On his way to San Francisco, he met the first members of his soon to be cult: Mary Brunner, Lynette Fromme, Susan Atkins and Sandra Good. He and his ‘family’ traveled down to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of being a famous musician and met celebrities such as Dennis Wilson from Beach Boys and Terry Melcher, a big time record producer and son of Doris Day. When it seemed like Manson’s dream would not pan out, they moved to a backdrop for western movies called Spahn Ranch. It was here that Manson convinced his followers that the Beatles’ song, Helter Skelter, foretold of a soon to be apocalyptic race war where it would end with them ruling the world (Petersen 3) (Rotham 2) (Gillis

Do you ever wonder why someone turned out the way they are? Like Charles Manson, what exactly does it take to create a cult leader that kills innocent people? Charles Manson is currently 82 and serving a life sentence at Corcoran State Prison. He is facing charges of first degree murder of nine people and conspiracy. He was originally sentenced to death, but in 2012, California abolished the death penalty, so it was changed to life without parole.
The Impact of Edgar Allan Poe on American Culture Edgar Allan Poe once said, “Words have no power to impress the mind without the exquisite horror of their reality.” Edgar Allan Poe is among many authors as one of the most influential writers of all time. Edgar Allan Poe had a unique writing style that no one else did. He did impact many people and still impacts many to this day.
It was clear that from the very beginning of Jackson’s career that he was one of his favorite artists. Brown engaged in the Rock ‘n’ Roll style of music, and Jackson idolized him as his godfather even though he did not fully get to match Brown’s level of the style. Jackson was more popular in pop music but in later years, it was not hard to see elements of Brown style in some of Jackson’s rock music such as You Rock My World and Give in to Me where the vocal techniques and performances could indeed be traced to those of Brown. Brown was also credited with providing a new direction for R & B that would later evolve into soul in the 1960s (Soul: a Historical Reconstruction of Continuity and Change in Black Popular Music, 33). The style applied vocal and instrumental elements.
James Mercer Langston Hughes was the first African American to achieve national prominence, and the figure of such stature in the black community. His influence and ideas were inescapable, as he saw himself as a poet for an entire nation. Hughes role model, Walt Whitman helped to give him the ideas of the optimistic vision of America and how to achieve and accomplish some of the things he did in his life. Langston Hughes inspired many people and expressed the African American spirt and soul in his works.
When people saw him, they came to a conclusion that he was dangerous rather than just getting to know him as a person and judge him on the way he acts and the way he looks. He mentioned in the article that when he walked by vehicles he could hear the doors locking from the people inside the vehicle being scared. People would run across the street when they saw him coming because they didn’t want to walk beside him. However, under those situations, he couldn’t blame the people for being scared, but still it is an uncomfortable feeling. So now whenever he went out in public places he changed up the way he appears; for example, he would whistle melodies from Beethoven and Vivaldi and the more popular classical composers, doing so, some people even joined in.
He then formed the Holy Spirit for the Unification of World Christianity he became famous for group marriage ceremonies and many lawsuits filed against the cult from families who were deprogramming their children. The one cult that left a mark on Americans is The Peoples Temple and its leader Jim Jones. As I started to do my research for this project I had in mind I would do an overview of cults in American society in the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s but one cult stood out from the rest it and it was The Peoples Temple and Jonestown.
On January 8th, 1935 one of the greatest influences to pop and country was born. Elvis Aaron Presley changed the way people heard and saw music through his songs and the way he performed them. Elvis’ music was stunning, he had eighteen American No. 1s and hundreds of gold records from around the world. He brought a way of performing that people had never experienced before, he was electrifying when he performed on stage. Elvis Presley was the first rock'n'roll star, he brought rebellion to the youth of that time and was able to grasp the listener and draw them into his songs which few artist have ever been able to accomplish.
His purpose in writing and performing this song is very simple, to motivate. Despite the record label not wanting to release the song for it being too lyrical and having too deep
Over the course of the American history, black people were oppressed and treated unfairly. A few ways that society treated black people is by segregating them from white people, beating them up, and taking advantage of them. As a consequence, African Americans grew up in an environment were limited in their abilities, had hatred towards the white, and had a constant judgment from white people. These factors contributed towards the way society viewed African Americans, flawed, uneducated, and poor. Yet, a notable person who overcame these obstacles and made the most out of his experiences was Malcolm X. He made a dramatic change not only in American history but in African American rights.
Especially when he sings “for once in my life”, his singing becomes close to a whisper and it is long and drawn out, which leads listeners to believe that the singer is ashamed. He then goes into the lines “It’s gonna feel real good, gonna make a difference, gonna make it right” (stanza 1, lines 3-4), which means that he wants to make up for all the times he has disregarded those who may be suffering. He feels almost guilty, so it will feel good to get rid of that burden and to
