How Does Napoleon Stay In Power? Like the Russians wanted to overthrow Stalin, the animals wanted to overthrow Jones. In the book Animal Farm, Napoleon the pig wanted to gain power over the farm he lived on, Manor Farm. But, the farm was controlled by the malicious Mr. Jones. So to gain control, he and his fellow animals overthrew him and his farm.
In George Orwell’s 1945 novel Animal Farm a pig named Napoleon uses many methods like propaganda to rise to power. After overthrowing Jones, the owner of Manor Farm, the two prominent leaders on Animal Farm are Snowball and Napoleon but the latter decides to chase Snowball off the farm. He then makes himself the leader of Animal Farm and starts to downplay situations, use scapegoats, and use fear to control the animals of Animal Farm. These tactics keep Napoleon in control and the animals realize too late that their pig rulers have become as bad as the humans as the novel ends. In Animal Farm Napoleon uses scapegoats, fear mongers, and downplays to redirect any blame that could possibly harm his reputation as a good leader of Animal Farm and to keep the animals under his control.
Juliette Blalock Singh 4/5 Animal Farm In the satiric novel Animal Farm by George Orwell, the character Napoleon represents a dictator in society, who turns a self-governed and unbiased farm into his own. Napoleon initially unifies with the rest of the animal’s, but soon decides to take matters into his own hands and disposes of Snowball and his proposals towards the farm. He takes advantage of the vulnerable animals so he can become in command. Napoleon is clever, brutal, and dictatorial to the animals. Napoleon made a substantial impact on the way the animals reacted to their new hardships.
“You listen. The beast is sitting up there, whatever it is!” “He’s like piggy. He says things like Piggy. He isn’t a proper chief.” Explanation: Jack was unlike the rest of the characters in this story as he showed determination and toughness above anyone else's. Jack was always determined to kill a pig and bring it back for a feast.
Don’t be the enemy. Now that Napoleon is in charge life is getting a whole lot worse because is has complete power of Animal Farm. Napoleon from Animal Farm written by Orwell maintains control by using ideology, propaganda, and fear. Napoleon uses ideology of Animalism to give him more control over the animals. One way he does this is by, using propaganda by making the sheep walking around say one of the seven amendments which were, “Four legs good, two legs bad’!” (Doc A, Chapter 2-3) This helps Napoleon stay in power because Napoleon created the statement and the sheep keep saying it, so the other animals will think that Napoleon should stay in power because he has good ideas.
The animals work together to learn to read, but once Snowball and Napoleon come into conflict and want power. Napoleon being the more selfish of the two, runs off Snowball to secure his spot at power over the farm and announces that the pigs will make the decisions from now on for the good of the other animals. Showing that that human nature is corrupted by power. Napoleon secures his power even more after the windmill collapses by having the dogs kill any animal involved in the destruction of the windmill. Snowball is then blamed and Napoleon takes on the view of “you’re either with me or against me” which is a view commonly used by many dictators to scare the people under their power.
Animal Farm: How Napoleon Stayed In Charge Having superiority over something is not easy. If put in the wrong hands, having superiority could destroy something as big as a country. In the story Animal Farm by: George Orwell a pig named Napoleon wanted to establish superiority over Manor Farm, but farmer Jones was in charge of the farm. So, Napoleon and the other animals held a rebellion against farmer Jones and the other humans then the animals kicked the humans off the farm and Napoleon slowly turns into a dictator over the farm. Napoleon stayed in charge of the farm by using fear, propaganda, and Animalism.
Napoleon considers the other animals who oppose his rule as treaters and kills them These are representations of Stalin’s purges that began before the Second World War and continued into the 1950s. Throughout Animal Farm, the animals needed to increase their resources, they undergo negotiations with other farms. then, a nearby farm known as Pinchfield became the best supplier of resources for Napoleon.Nonetheless, to symbolize Hitler and Russian involvement in the second World War Orwell stated that Pinchfield turns against the animal farm. George Orwell’s writing is short, simple, and to the point. He does not spend much time using figurative language or explaining a character’s feelings.
For instance, Napoleon chose to fight the humans as a sign of strength and power. The animals won, but they still did not know the real reasons behind things because Napoleon just lied to them. Moreover, Napoleon executed the animals that betrayed him and supposedly helped Snowball on the other farm. This was completely unfair, and after the exile of the various animals, some started to notice that everyone on the farm was being treated without any respect whatsoever. “They were executed immediately, and fresh precautions for Napoleon’s safety were taken.” (Orwell 95) Even though Napoleon was already guarded by vicious dogs, more precautionary measures were taken.
The ensuing rebellion under the leadership of the pigs Napoleon and Snowball leads to the animals taking over the farm. Vowing to eliminate the terrible inequities of the farmyard, the renamed Animal Farm is organised to benefit all who walk on four legs. But as time passes, the ideals of the rebellion are corrupt, then forgotten. This is all due to the lust for power that the pigs Napoleon and Snowball have that made them all selfish and corrupted. Animal farm in context to The Russian Revolution in terms of corrupting influence of power : Orwell 's goal was to portray the Russian Revolution of 1917 and the early years of the Soviet Union that resulted in a more oppressive and deadly government than the one it overthrew.
