Pierre Trudeau was one of the iconic leaders of Canada who brought forth a new verve of energy in the country. It was his charismatic personality coupled with revolutionary ideas and beliefs that helped him climb up the ladder to serve the most prestigious and responsible chair of the country. Pierre Trudeau was born on October 18, 1919 in Montréal, Quebec. His terms of office were from April 20, 1968 to June 3, 1979 as well as March 3, 1980 to June 30, 1984. Pierre Trudeau had been a Liberal political party leader from 1968–1984. He received his education from various universities and passed away on September 28, 2000 in Montréal, Quebec. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms now forms a part of our constitution, making it difficult for future governments to decrease or limit the rights and freedoms we currently enjoy. When Quebec wanted to be a separate country Trudeau figured out that a renewed effort for constitutional change was needed, and assured the province that it’s rights would be protected with a new constitutional arrangement. In October 1980, Trudeau did not have the support of eight provinces but still went ahead and requested that the British government amend the BNA act by adding a Canadian Charter of Right and Freedoms. By April of 1982, the amendment was signed by Queen Elizabeth the second, and the charter became Canada’s very own.
