Rainsford Killed General Zaroff
Rainsford was the most justified in killing his enemy. He was most justified, because General Zaroff was bought an island just to hunt people. Zaroff first helped them by feeding them, giving them new clothes, and letting them stay in his house, and sleep in his bedrooms, that he had in his mansion. After a few weeks later of letting them stay in he will tell them that he will hunt them down and use their head as a trophy by the success he made. Zaroff had killed many innocent lives, just for the fun of it. Rainsford had been a trophy hunter too. He hunted for the excitement, when he knew Zaroff hunted animals that can think he was shooked up, he said that’s wrong hunting of your own kind that’s bad.
Rainsford was justified in killing General Zaroff. During the time Rainsford is in Zaroff’s house they have a conversation about hunting. Zaroff tells Rainsford about him hunting humans. Rainsford says, “I can’t believe you are serious, General Zaroff. This is a grisly joke...........
He views the killing of animals as acceptable but not killing of humans. His insistence on him being different from Zaroff enables him to be on higher moral ground compared to his host. After his experiences in the forest and the constant fraying of his nerves, he might have been turned into the very person he had called a murderer. The author concludes the story with Rainsford, sleeping on the bed and notes that Rainsford never had a better one.

Another highly unbelievable event that takes place is when Rainsford swam all the way around the island to kill Zaroff. This is extremely unbelievable because Rainsford was very exhausted and worn out. First Rainsfords trap kills Ivan, but the dogs move on, trapping Rainsford at the edge of a cliff. Next instead of fighting the dogs, Rainsford jumps off into the sea below, stunned and angered, Zaroff returns to his home. Finally as he flicks on his bedroom light, he is in complete shock to find Rainsford hidden within the curtains of the bed.
The Most Dangerous Game is a story that discusses the inner capability to humans to perform acts of extreme violence. It observes two different, yet similar characters in General Zaroff and Rainsford. They both have very similar views on hunting, as they both consider the feelings of the prey to be meaningless. However, the stark difference between the two characters is the General Zaroff hunts humans and Rainsford hunts big game. Connell made sure to write this similarity into the story for the sake of foreshadowing.

According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary a Sadist is, “Someone who has delight in cruelty.” The antagonist, General Zaroff from Richard Connell’s short story, Most Dangerous Game is a sadist. The Most Dangerous Game is a story about a man who lives on “Ship-Trap Island”, an uninhabited island amid the ocean. He waits for people to wash ashore and harbors them until he thinks they’re ready to go “hunting”. To General Zaroff hunting is trying to kill a human in a 3-day span.
Hunting animals and rodents are normal to everyday people, but for General Zaroff, hunting people is his everyday desire. His inhumane attitude creates him into a murderer for his own pleasure. The story, “The Most Dangerous Game” written by Richard Connell, is an adventurous, suspenseful, and grotesque thriller. The story takes place on a mysterious island in the Caribbean. The first main character we meet is Rainsford.
In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” Rainsford was justified in killing General Zaroff. Rainsford is a hunter who fell off a boat in the middle of no where. As he gets to land he runs into several obstacle courses, then gets to this big house and meets General Zaroff. General Zaroff also hunts, just not animals. He hunts something more dangerous such as humans who boats crashed like Rainsford.

In the story, “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell the protagonist, Rainsford, a very skilled hunter, falls of a ship and finds himself on Ship-Trap Island, where he meets the antagonist, General Zaroff. Rainsford discovers that Zaroff is also an intelligent hunter and is disgusted to discover that he plays a dangerous game in which he hunts humans that he catches on his island, Rainsford becomes his next participant. Rainsford and Zaroff have a lot of similar beliefs about hunting, social classes, and the feelings of their prey and they are both very intelligent hunters. However, Rainsford’s hunting knowledge causes Zaroff’s first loss in his game because Rainsford is the better hunter. Rainsford and Zaroff both showcase their love and knowledge for hunting in the text.
Although, now it seems that Rainsford has adopted General Zaroff's cold attitude toward killing humans, so if Rainsford has changed, it was not to a better person but to a worse. From first no sympathy for animals to no sympathy for men. One way it seems that way is he kills Ivan with no pang of guilt. Some might say that's not murder that's just self-defense. But if that's the case then why does Rainsford after claiming victory and safety from death go to Zaroff's room at night and kills him.

One of the reasons why Rainsford is justified in killing General Zaroff is on the island the only way to live is to hunt or to be the one being hunted. Secondly, Rainsford is justified in killing General Zaroff because Zaroff wanted to die. Lastly, Rainsford is justified in killing General Zaroff because killing Zaroff is going to be the only way Rainsford will escape the island from a psychopath.
Rainsford feels sympathy for the animals, just as he was being hunted by a human. Rainsford is frustrated with General Zaroff games. Being hunted like an animal creates conflict and Rainsford “can’t believe that [Zaroff] [is] serious... This is grisly joke(27). In other words, he
Therefore, Rainsford won’t ever hunt again because he is traumatized by his experiences on the island. With all his experiences on the island Rainsford became traumatized. For example when Zaroff tells Rainsford about the type of hunting he does, which he hunts actual men. “Hunting? Good God, General Zaroff, what you speak of is murder” (Connell 23).
