Red Cloud lived in Montana and was very successful in wars with the US and other tribes. He was a great chief. Red cloud was also a well known diplomat for his people. Red Cloud was a very famous throughout his tribe and feared by his enemies. Red Cloud killed his uncle’s rival. Killing his uncle’s rival was a huge event in Red Cloud’s life. These are some of the things that happened in Red Cloud’s life. Red Cloud’s adult life was filled with war. These are the things that started Red Cloud’s war. The US started to build a road from Fort Laramie to the gold fields in 1860. They built forts along the trail to protect the settlers and miners. Red Cloud did not want his People to suffer like other tribes so he fought against the US. Red Cloud stopped the US. He used guerilla warfare like tactics to fight the soldiers and settlers. Captain William Fetterman led a relief team of 80 men in 1866 and were defeated. Red Cloud and the tribes won the Wagon Box fight and the Hayfield Fight. This led to the troops evacuating the area. The end of the war was peaceful and the US made a treaty. The treaty of Fort Laramie was signed. It ceased indian raids and stopped the Bozeman Trail. They celebrated by burning down the abandoned forts along the trail. Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse were in another war, but red cloud did not join.
