The renaissance is characterized by an interest in “the classics” (Greece & Rome), an emphasis on individual achievement, and a spirit of adventure. The Catholic Church was a major influence on Renaissance art and the source of all of its concepts. Lots of renaissance art was inspired by the church or was endeavored by the church. One of the most known pieces that were created and influenced by the Church is The Last Judgment by Michaelangelo, “The work depicts the second coming of Christ and, although the artist is clearly inspired by the Bible, it is his own imaginative vision that prevails in this painting.” (Italian-renaissance-art).
