The Holocaust effected thousands of families. Loved ones were lost, families were torn apart, and people suffered tremendously. One of the many families that became famous during the Holocaust was the Frank family. Anne Frank was a young Jewish girl who was forced to go into hiding with her family during World War II to escape from the Nazis. As a young teenager, she became famous for her diary and known for sharing her experiences during this terrible time in history. During the 1940’s, the Nazis gained control over Germany. As the persecuting of the Jews increased the Frank family went into hiding. On Monday, July 6th, 1942 the Frank family went into hiding behind a book case where Anne’s father used to work or known as the secret annex.
It became hard for Anne, she was put into a segregated Jewish school, her father even had to give up his title in his business. On June 12, 1942 Anne got a diary for her birthday, this will later be the reason we know Anne Frank’s story. On July 5, 1942 Anne’s family were forced into hiding; it was no longer safe for their family to live in the outside world. She wrote in her diary “ The world will keep turning without me, and I can’t do anything to change events anyway.” The family spent two years in hiding, it wasn't till August 4, 1944 that the family was found by the police, they arrested everyone in hiding.
The Holocaust was when the Nazis murdered 11,000,000 people. One of the most famous holocaust survivors was Elie Wiesel. He wrote a memoir Night. Some of the terrible things that happened to Elie included beating, starvation, and forced marches. This kind of trauma changes a person.
Anne Franks diary shows us to help and not mistreat people because of who they are or what they look like. The Holocaust was a time period during World War 2 when they killed many jews. Hitler was the main leader and his reasoning for doing this was because he thought that the jews were evil and bad. This was a horrible time period for the jews. Some of these jews went into hiding because they did not want to go to the concentration camps to be killed.
Anne Frank was a young Jewish girl living in Amsterdam during the occupation by the Nazis. She was forced to go into hiding above her father's work for two years to avoid prison. During her time in hiding, she kept a diary and wrote about her experience. Frank writes about her loving and compassionate family and also mentions how she has built new relationships with the other families in the house. In her diaries, Frank frequently emphasizes the value of family, emphasizing how her trials were made easier by the presence of those she loved who understood what she was going through.
In the “Diary of Anne Frank”, the Frank family got a letter that Margot had to go to the camps. At this point, they knew that they then had to hide. They needed to do anything to stay away and hidden from the Nazis. They decided to hide above a work building that people did not know about in the attic. This was their way that they were going to be living life as long as they needed too.
In the news article, “The Controversy over Anne Frank’s Legacy,” published by JTA, the author, Tom Nugend, questions whether Anne Frank should be the icon of the Holocaust. I agree with the author’s claim that Anne Frank shouldn’t be the main person of the Holocaust because many other Jews had to suffer more than she and her family did. Her family was lucky that they had a place to go into hiding and that they had friends that offered them things that they needed. While Anne Frank and the others stayed in the annex, many Jews and other innocent people were taken to concentration camps. In the camps, they were forced to work and they barely received any food.
During the Holocaust Jews were put through horrific things you can’t even imagine would happen to another human being. Jews lives were completely changed, they had gone from happy with their family to families torn apart within a few days. The prisoners wondered how long they were going to live. They had never known what day was going to be their last. The Holocaust is a very significant event in history because of how horrible Jews lived their lives back then and where they lived their lives during that period of time.
There was a group of people who were Jews and lived in the Secret Annex. Mr.Frank built the Annex and his family, he had two daughters named Anne and Margot. They had to live in this place because of a dictator named Hitler. They went into hiding on July 6, 1942.They are joined by four other people that are hiding because they were jews too. Mr.Frank is the one that lets all the people join his annex.

If they got caught hiding, they would be sent to a concentration camp, just because they are Jewish. They are being forced to hide, it’s the only way that they could survive. When the Germans ended up finding the families in the annex Anne wrote in her diary and said “They have allowed us 5 minutes to pack our things.” (Frank, 511.) While Anne and her family have many sentimental things, they only allowed them to pack for 5 minutes, they have to grab whatever they can.
The courageous Frank family, consisting of a father, mother, and two young daughters, were tortured during this time period. One particular family member, the youngest daughter, has a legacy that still lives on today. Anne Frank was both a hero and a victim of the Holocaust because she was forced into hiding, her loved ones were killed, and her diaries positively impacted many. During this dreadful time, Anne Frank was victimized by being forced into hiding.
