What impressed me the most about the American Civil War was that, America became a single nation that defines the meaning of freedom, democracy, revolutionary, and equality. The Declaration of Independence states, “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among those are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness” (“The Declaration of Independence, Full text”, 2017, p. 1). America formed a government that protected this God given right. This is evidence that all men should be free from oppression and the institution of slavery. America grew tired of imposed taxation without consent which was an Englishman’s right; however Great Britain passed several taxation acts over a period. America governed themselves until these acts became law. The reason for the Revolutionary War was the passing of taxes in Parliament without representation for the Colonist, and the organization of the Sons of Liberty lead by Sam Adams which boycotted and rebelled against the Tea Act. The American Revolutionary War began on April 19, 1775. The Battle of Lexington and Concord was the first battle of the Revolutionary war. I learned that rebellion is not always a terrible thing when it comes to protecting your rights. Where would America be today if the Colonial America did not take a stand to form a better government? The Declaration of Independence states, “ that to secure their rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed—Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and institute an new Government” (“Declaration of Independence”, 2015, p.1).
