In my opinion, the Intolerable Acts, also known as the “Coercive Acts”, caused the most unrest in the colonies and led to the American Revolution. The Intolerable Acts were started in 1774 after the outcome of the Boston Tea Party. This caused numerous uprisings and unwanted outcomes from the British. The “Intolerable Acts” were named this by the Boston colonists, since they felt like they couldn’t put up with the British after everything they had done. First of all, the British closed the port of Boston, which stopped imports and exports coming into the port. The British thought this would calm the colonists down, but this made them even more upset and disloyal. They were upset because those were the busiest, and wealthiest ports, and hundreds
The Tea Act angered the colonist the most because for one they took action and threw over tea into the Boston harbor, and because it’s the India company that’s getting all the money, they have the monopoly. Also, the Boston Tea Party (which was what happened because of Tea Act) lead to the British passing the Coercive act which shut down the Boston harbor from importing or exporting. The Sugar Act is the one that angered them the least because it was the first tax the colonies had gotten, they would have been okay with it because at this time they still liked Britain. Also, it only taxed sugar and molasses and the Tea Act hadn’t been passed yet so they could still have their tea but the sugar would have been just a bit more expensive than
Britain responded in the Spring of 1774 with five “Coercive Acts” (“Intolerable Acts” in the colonies). The Boston Port Act closed the port to all shipping. The Massachusetts Government Act concentrated power in the royal governor. The Administration of Justice Act allowed British soldiers and officials to be tried in Britain or another colony. The Quartering Act directed the local Boston authorities to find quarters for British troops in the city.
The colonists were upset still cause they believe they had won the french and indian war. They felt they had no representation. So the phrase “No taxation without representation” was born. So the british had to pay for protection against the Natives. Samuel Adams founded the committee of correspondents, to improve communication among the colonies.
The intolerable acts happened because of people being upset about the Boston Tea party. The First Continental Congress was almost the last straw for the colonists, they were fed up. The intolerable acts were more than the colonists could handle. Since the Intolerable Acts were caused by the Boston Tea Party and the First
The British making taxes on newspapers and pamphlets led colonists to anger. The King should not have made the Americans house troops in their homes. Great Britain imposing the intolerable act on America created outrage and anger among the colonists. The tight British control on the colonies led the American colonists to want independence.
The three events I chose are the Quartering act, Proclamation of 1763, and the Intolerable act. First, the cause of the Quartering act is that parliament punished Boston for the Boston tea party and the act required colonist to keep British soldiers. I think it led to war because It increased the colonist anger at Britain.
There were many events leading up to the revolutionary war but the Stamp Act and Sugar Act had its impact. These two acts are a part of what got the conflict started between Great Britain and America; The Sugar Act, was a law that imposed taxes on certain imports and the Stamp Act, is a law that levied new excise taxes. The colonist posed such strong opposition against the taxes the British government were implemented that it was
Following a victory of the Seven Years’ War the British made policy changes on how to handle the American colonies. These policies were to enforce trade regulations, as well as collecting money to help pay for the expenses of the British Empire. These policies would be The Sugar Act, which helped making the collection of taxes on molasses more efficient. Then in 1765, The Stamp Act was created. The Stamp Act would spread the English Tax on newspapers, legal documents and other prints.
Also, they did this for power. They wanted to show the colonists who was in charge, so by doing so they showed they have power. King George III, signed these acts, and made the acts towards the British colonies. These acts made the British colonies feel as if they were prisoners, not people of Britain. For this reason, I think this brought the American Revolution
Britain tried to control the colonies' trade through the Navigation Acts and that caused resentment and rebellion. Later the Townshend Acts would cause suspicion and struggle when England tried to tax colonists to pay colonial judges and governors to work with Britain. The Tea Act was imposed to help out the East India Company and had nothing to do with taxes, but with smothering the smuggling of Dutch tea. The colonists were radically angry about supposedly being taxed without consent, and the Boston Tea Party happened because of it. The Intolerable Acts, or the Coercive Acts, which gave Britain the right to try criminals in England as well as close the Boston Harbor until reparations were paid.
The last reason that is going to be discussed is the Intolerable Act. It was passed in 1774 and say that the Boston Harbor was closed until the colonist had to repay the East India trading company because of “the Boston Tea Party”. The Boston Tea Party was when the colonist decided to dump 46 tons (340 chest) into the Boston
The British were starting to lose control of the American colonies. Taxes and acts enacted changed the relationship between Britain and the American colonists. The Stamp Act and the Townshend Acts both showed that Britain was trying to enforce its power after being lenient with the colonists since the beginning of British rule. The Boston Massacre of 1770 was the point of no return for the colonists in their British relations and led to the American Revolution. The incident inflamed the colonists based on rumors that the affected colonists were shot without provocation, and because the colonists were already fed up with all the acts imposed by the British Parliament.
In the Colonies things were heating up between the Colonists and Great Britain. The Colonists were becoming very angry with the British. There were multiple events that led up to the American Revolutionary War. Two of the events where the Boston massacre and the Boston tea party. Some other events were the intolerable acts.
Intolerable Acts The Intolerable Acts can be viewed as one of the first sparks to the flaming fire of America claiming Independence. The Intolerable Acts, also called the Coercive Acts, were a series of laws passed in 1774 in order to punish the colonies for defying their rule. Four out of five of the Intolerable Acts were directed towards Massachusetts directly and the other was directed at Quebec. All of the Acts were supposed to stop the colonies from defying England’s Rule and show the colonies that England was still in charge.
Was Revolution Avoidable? Could the American Revolution be avoided? This question is often asked by historians and today my soul purpose for writing this essay is to answer that question. The American Revolution couldn’t have been avoided. The revolution occurred because of clash of interest of british and colonist, Inflaming tensions by the colonist also cause revolution with Great Britain, and the third reason why the american revolution couldn’t have been avoided was the Boston Massacre.
