The Knights of Columbus a fraternal organization was founded in 1882. They have grown tremendously from being a small group that had a few core values to a group that just helps by giving financial support to their members while preaching and showing the Catholic values to its nearly 2 million members (“About Us”). The Knights continue to grow and teach us all values and morals to help others. These teachings are those of the Catholic Church and also the Knights put emphasis on values such as charity, unity, and fraternity. The Knights create this community aspect through clothing, brotherhood, and work. One of the ways that a community is formed by the Knights of Columbus is the dressing that are worn by their members. During special events many of their members show up in distinct clothing that usually were, full and colorful, regalia that also had a cape (“NCRegister”). This attire itself makes a community because people can easily see who is a Knight and also are able to tell the ranking of Knights compared to others. This makes it so that those who want to grow within the community and develop greater rank, that individual can try and be a disciple to a high rank. The would be able to meet or come into contact with these officials within the community at events and talk to about maybe joining or getting more involved. Also, the Knights of Columbus instilled a company community. Some may not think of this as a part to a community, but because only members of the Knights can be employed to see their life insurance. This makes it a culture where the employees have a lot in common (“Insurance”). With this culture in place it makes member's happy to work, due to the enjoyable work environment. It is enjoyable, because the members are all in the same brotherhood preaching the same values and want the best for each other. The community aspect creates a close unit of people that can build off one another to grow in their faith. Through their charity they can use it as a platform to pass their values onto others and produce opportunities to people who would never have had it in their lives unless the Knights came along. They have proven to take care of Catholics that are in need. Although the Knights prove to have great intentions and care for what the future holds, they have a definite lack of support towards women. This fraternal organization does not allow for any woman affiliation within their group, but does connect to smaller woman organizations.
