Preparing for the abolition of the implemented throughout 1862. December 30, 1862, the president signed "Emancipation Proclamation", announced blacks living in the territories in rebellion against the United States, "now and forever" free. The document gave impetus to the adoption of Amendment XIII (1865) to the US Constitution. Proclamation been rightly criticized by radical Republicans, since the emancipation of slaves was carried out where it is not distributed power of the federal government, but it has changed the nature of the Civil War, turning it into a war for the abolition of slavery. In addition, it has forced foreign countries, including the UK, do not support the Confederacy.
The mutiny, “Deepened the schism between slaveholders and free-soilers” (history.com). Nat’s actions led to, “ending the organized emancipation movement in that region.”( History.com). “The state legislature of Virginia considered abolishing slavery, but in a close vote decided to retain slavery and to support a repressive policy against black people, slave and free “ ( Pbs.org). Because of the rebel people considered abolishing slavery but because so many people died, the cons of the attack outweighed the pros. There was much damage caused by the rebel.
Reconstruction in 1865 through 1877 was terminated by Southern men due to their lack of acceptance of African Americans in restricting their political rights, not following the North’s precedence of equality, and the assassination of many a men by their ever so popular Klan. Reformation began after the Civil War which was fought over sectional differences and heavy slavery in the South. Southerns had always been pro slavery which contributed to their low treatment of African Americans as a whole. Once the South lost the War they could no longer legally enslave African Americans, but that did not change their persona in the eyes of the rich white men. Equality was a concept for white men according to the South, especially considering that
The Civil War was a unique and significant event in American history. According to many historians, the war was ultimately the final resolution of contradictions in the vision of America when the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. It stated that “all men are created equal” and “endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights”. The war’s origins lay in slavery, which began in North America in the early 1600s and grew rapidly in the South, which caused the southern economy as a whole depended on heavily on slave labor leading up to the Civil War. Slavery, the splitting of which state would be slave or free, and Abraham Lincoln played a major role that was responsible for the nature of the war than any other individual.
The two main problems in the south were how do we rebuild the south? And what would we do with the freed slaves? This became big problems that was during the time of reconstruction. I believed that the South killed reconstruction because of violence promoted towards blacks in the South by the Ku Klux Klan. The south wanted to end all reconstruction effort.
What was the Compromise of 1850? Since "The Missouri Compromise of 1820" the northern states abolished slavery, however in the southern territories it was still legal. The southern and northern states were constantly arguing because of this topic, that 's why " The Compromise of 1850" was created. The Compromise of 1850 consisted of a series of bills that aimed to deal with slavery in the Confederacy. The Compromise made slavery illegal in California and in the District of Columbia, while in New Mexico and Utah the local ruler would have made the big decision.
The South wanted to keep slaves while the North wanted to abolish them. In conclusion, the primary cause of the civil war was not slavery instead was the issue of states rights. The Northern armies won the Civil War and the the South returned to the Union. “The Civil War started because of differences between free slaves states and the power of the government that said if slavery was correct or incorrect.”(The Civil War in America Prologue). Slavery was right at that time but now it is wrong.
With no final agreement, the country had no other choice but to go to war with itself. The slow decline of the, once powerful, Southern economy and the major issue of the abolishment of slaves are what led to the cause of the American Civil War. While economics and political structure played an important role in the cause of the Civil War, slavery was the main reason why altercations arose. Many historians and teachers try to hide the fact that slavery was such a huge factor in the cause of the Civil War because they looked at slavery as the “norm”. To them, the differences between the Republicans and Democratic formed great disagreement.
Secondly the south wanted to leave the union because Uncle Tom’s Cabin was published. In document 4 it states “She wrote this book to show that slavery was evil and that the Fugitive Slave Law was unjust. This would convince or show how evil and wrong slavery is and more people would want to abolish slavery. If they didn’t secede they would lose slavery. So to stop people in the South to be convinced that slavery is wrong the South left the union.
Additionally, the election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860 inflamed the South due to the fact that Lincoln was a Republican. The South believed the goal for the Republican party was to over throw slavery (Lecture, “Causes of the Civil War: A House Divided”). Instead, the primary intention was to prevent the expansion of slavery; therefore, slavery needed to transition into “all one thing or all the other” (Lecture, “Causes of the Civil War: A House Divided”). Before Lincoln was inaugurated, the South seceded, and the development of the Confederate States of America emerged with the intention to self govern and protect slavery. South Carolina was the first to secede followed by Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas.
