This arguments is made in an excerpt from the Connecticut Slaves Petition for Freedom that is dated May 11, 1779. It points out how the Patriots desire for independence goes against their ways of not giving freedom to thousands of slaves. All in all, the war demonstrated the democratic ideals of the Patriots while showing how many Patriots went against their own fighting reason by owning slaves. There fighting reason would be to gain independence and freedom. However, they did not give these rights to others, as you can see this in the Connecticut Slaves Petition for Freedom.
The Sons of Liberty club sprang up to oppose the tax, so they burned the stamps and drove out all the stamp collectors. The Boston Sons of Liberty, headed by Sam Adams, was one of the most uncontrollable patriots in the country. Townshend Acts: •Named after the Chancellor Charles Townshend became the birth of six new laws. The motivation for these acts was to use the money to pay the salaries of governors and judges so that they would stay loyal to Great Britain. Mainly so that the governors and judges would punish the province of New York for failing to obey the Quartering Act.
The increase of taxation led to a crisis from colonial people. Riots were established to those who initiated or supported the taxes, stealing everything from some members homes but the foundation and walls. Groups were formed of colonialists who sought liberty, declared the excessive taxation as unconstitutional and fought to protect what they felt were consumer rights. This all lead to the great American revolution in which once the Stamp Act was placed by the parliament, colonial society then produced a stamp act congress to counteract the parliaments decision. This establishment led to the Continental Congress, which eventually separated the colonies from the parliament to then govern themselves and cut ties to the English Crown moving towards
After Lexington and Concord, the Second Continental Congress didn’t pursue independence, but they did select George Washington as the military commander. From April 1775 to July 1776, many colonists were confused for their feelings of independence; some colonists wanted to mend differences, while others wanted to fight Britain. The British fought back hard and strong by burning down towns and attacking the colonists. Thomas Paine’s book, Common Sense, argued that the colonists out grew the need for any English rule and they should be given independence. Finally, Thomas Jefferson was appointed to create a draft of the Declaration of Independence, and it was approved by Congress on July 4, 1776.
On the other hands, the Loyalists were a portion of the population in the American Colonies who wanted remain loyal to the King or stay part of Britain. One reason why people became Patriots was because in 1765 the parliament of England passed the Stamp Act; this Act imposed all American colonist to pay taxes on every piece of printed paper including Legal documents, Newspaper, and Ships papers. The law was offensive to the Patriots, that felt that
Today you can voice your opinion and write what you believe. However there once was a law in place that went against that freedom. It was called the Sedition Act, it went against the first amendment of the United States constitution, and it turned the political parties against each other. It caused many people to become angry because their freedom to talk and express their opinion had be taken away. The reason I request for its repel is because it was a violation of the first amendment, turned political parties against each other, and because the only reason the Sedition Act was made was because of the president’s wife.
The American Revolution lasted from 1765 to 1783. This war was fought between the British and American Colonists due to the colonist’s desire to separate from the British. The devastating war was brutally bloody for both the Colonists and the British. The American Colonists were able to defeat the militarily stronger British by utilizing the hatred between the British and the French, having a stronger general, and using their knowledge of their homeland to fight against the British. First of all, the colonists were smart enough to use the animosity between the British and French for their own benefit.
The Sons of Liberty became known as a patriot group founded in the Boston colony. They formed before the American Revolution and independence from Great Britain, known first as the “Loyal Nine.” The Sons of Liberty protested unfair taxes imposed by the British crown, terrorized British colonial authorities and contributed to the start of the American Revolution. The objective of the Sons of Liberty was to stop implementation of the 1765 Stamp Act by any methods including viciousness. In that capacity, this gathering would be considered Terroristic. Isaac Barre, an individual from Parliament and companion of the American pioneers, reacted by portraying the Americans as "These Sons of Liberty."
My service to the army at Valley Forge is soon ending.I have decided to re-enlist for three reasons which are: Hope, the army needs me, and for my family and the hope of surviving. The event that caused this whole war to occur were the protesting and the Boston Tea party that happened in 1773. I felt that the Boston Tea Party was a right and wrong decision when it happened because we should not use violence to cooperate with our “enemies”, we should use reason. Even though the British kind of deserved that protest. Also the Declaration of Independence caused the war by angering the British in 1776.
Parliament responded with a series of harsh measures intended to stifle colonial resistance to British rules. Later on The Coercive Acts closed Boston to merchant shipping. This event established aBritish military rule in Massachusetts. The act allowed the British officials to be immune to criminal prosecution in America. Not to forget the requirement of the colonists to quarter British troops. The incident, known as the Boston Tea Party triggered a chain of events that directly led to the Americans fighting for their
Normal civilians forced to house soldiers in their homes, a state where you are constantly being taxed without representation, and only being thought of as a revenue stream for the crown. All of the things previously mentioned sound quite a lot like a totalitarian state and one anyone would revolt in. This helps to create the narrative in which the American colonists lived in, the times were very hard for the colonist because of the British oppression going on within the colonies. So yes, the American colonists were justified in declaring their independence due to the acts the British government put in place to oppress them. The American colonies under British rule had plenty of right to revolt due to harsh and harmful British law.
The Boston Tea Party, Sugar Act, Tea Act, and Stamp Act all helped to inflame each side in this and help each side to grow hatred for eachother. So the question is, What was the Battle of Lexington and Concord and how did it help to start the Revolutionary War? The Battle of Lexington and Concord didn 't just start because someone said hey let 's go kill a bunch of Brits NO! The war started because of unfair treatment and unjust ways of collecting money that were not necessary to the government and that were not helping the colonies at all. The main reason for the battle to begin was that the British were putting
However, most American colonists didn’t agree to help the Britain to repay the debt. They thought the true reason for the Great Britain had fought this war is because the Great Britain wants to expand it colonies in America and increase its wealth. But more importantly, American colonists think the Britain Parliament was elected by British who living in Britain, so these member of the Parliament won’t understand what the colonists need. Since these member of the Parliament cannot represent the American Colonists, they have no right to imposing taxes. In the year 1774, the Boston tea party occurred leads all American Colonists begin to
