Most people in the Secret Annex showed courage, compassion, and sacrifice, Mr. Frank, Peter, Anne, and Miep. Almost all of them showed these characteristics throughout the story. Though Mr. Van Daan and, Mrs. Van Daan, Mr.Dussel did not show these characteristics they all did have important roles in the Annex. For courage, Miep was the one that had the most courage. Saving someone other than yourself in a terrible situation is not something everyone thinks about doing, but in this case Stefania Podgorska not only saved herself but 13 others, and they all lived. Podgorska didn’t plan to save all those people it was more a spur of the moment thing, and not only did she help them by getting them food she saved every last one of them; and they all lived to see more days. In life, good deeds go unnoticed, the courage and unselfishness of her mind at that time should not be something someone just forgets about it’s a wonderful thing she did and everyone should know about her. By examining Podgorska and her moral courage it is clear that she deserves all the attention given, and or all the respect others show. Stefania came from a well known Catholic family that served the community, and so, when it came to do what she did i’m sure it wasn’t in her mind out of the ordinary/or heroism.
“Ahh that felt good”, I thought to myself after I helped a little kid find his mother because he was lost. Helpful is when you help someone do something that they cannot do on their own. In my two stories, I picked Connie and Arn both show that they are helpful in their own way, but Arn is the most helpful. One reason why Arn is considered helpful is because he said, “This guy Mek, he decided to live because of what I say, now I know it’s my job to keep him living. ”(McCormick page 58).
In the year 1933, the persecution of Jews and their families due to the holocaust had begun. Hitler had come to power, and made Nazi Germany believe the Jews were the problem. The Jewish families were forced into hiding or else they would be taken away to concentration camps or killed. One of the families in 1945, being persecuted were the Franks. Anne Frank was 13 when they moved into the hidden annex above Mr. Kralers office building.
In Frederick Douglass’ personal autobiography, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, Douglass remarked, “I prayed for freedom for twenty years, but received no answer until I prayed with my legs” (Douglass 34). Courage is stepping out of the comfort zone and acting out regardless of fear. Frederick Douglass is the most prominent leader, authoritative speaker, and influential author of African American history. Douglass actively led the slavery abolition movement, fought for women’s voting rights, served as a statesman, and published three autobiographies and several abolitionist newspapers reflecting the abolition movement and hardships of slavery (“A Short Biography of Frederick Douglass). The sacrifices an individual makes for the sake of others really says something about them as a person. For example, in the story The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards, Caroline takes in Phoebe to be her child, putting her whole life on hold so Phoebe has a chance of having a happy life. To begin, after Phoebe’s birth, David Henry instructs Caroline to take Phoebe to an institution. When she arrives at this run down building, she can’t get herself to do it.
Courage The dictionary definition of courage is “strength in the face of pain of grief.” Throughout the novel The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien, the common idea of courage is expressed with different meanings as each character interprets courage differently.

Hans empathathetic nature and his bravery was emphasized when he, “presented a piece of bread” to a Jewish man walking past (Zusak 394). The compassion shown creates a sense of being, “like magic” although it was considered insane during World War II in Nazi Germany (394). This “small, futile miracle” occurred because Hans fearlessly chose to not be a bystander (394). He showed through this feat
Anne and Bruno alike express that there is goodness in the hearts of everyone. This is shown specifically in The Boy In The Striped Pajamas when Bruno goes under the fence to help Shmuel, his friend in a concentration camp, find his father. The idea of a german boy helping a jew is an example of how even when told otherwise by society, people will still help those in need. Anne Frank also expresses this idea when she writes in her diary, “In spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart,” This shows that Anne believed in the goodness of mankind, even when it did nothing but bad to her. Both children even when they’d only been exposed to hate, still saw with pure eyes that everyone was equal and had love inside

Argument Essay Are people aware of their own good nature, are others aware of their good nature? Anne Frank’s statement, that people are truly good at heart, is true. The current generation and the past generation has had its faults, it’s troubles and events. For instance, the Holocaust and the recent Florida school shooting. Yet, there is always good in the world, no matter the tyrant.
760 days of darkness. 25 months of silence. 2 years of paranoia. All for one goal, to live. Anne Frank, a German Jew, went into hiding with her family, and four others.
