How Does Ellen Kill Her Father

“When I was little I would think of ways to kill my daddy. I would figure out this or that way and run it through my head until it got easy” (1).
So far in the novel Ellen is plotting a way to kill her father and she feels the need that her father should be dead. I wonder why Ellen would ever want to kill her own father. Her tone seems to be as if her father did something to her where now that is why she may be thinking like that. She has a sense of hatred and anger towards him and it seems that she feels killing him is a good idea.
“And I look at the back of her neck and think to myself my mama is dead in the church, my daddy is a monster, your girl is probably going to pee on me before this ride is over and that is all you can find to say” (16).

She wanted to paint broad oceans but they have suggestions for cats so that is what she ended up deciding to since drawing oceans was too difficult. The narrator is describing the ocean and her voice conveys a sense of peace. Ellen seems to describe them nicely and went into deep thought while thinking of oceans.
“Have you ever felt like you could cry because you know you just heard the most important thing anybody in the world could have spoke at that second” (99).
In the novel Ellen’s new mama,Nadine, agreed to letting Scarletta stay with them for a while. Ellen became very excited when heard this and this was very important for her since she missed her so much. This quote shows a sense of imagery and can be seen through her voice. Ellen can create a feeling throughout the audience on how she is feeling by giving an example. Relating back to the audience can let the reader better understand the book and the emotions the characters are feeling.
“...but I had wanted so badly to believe somebody I just listened and believed. And she hugged me and pulled me next to her and it was like I wanted it to be”
