Oprah Winfrey Oprah Winfrey is arguably one of the most successful women in America. She has changed her own life as well as others through television, social media, and books. Oprah understands what it is like to suffer and persevere. What she has learned she tries to preach to her fans so they can get through tough times and continue on the journey of life. The theme of perseverance is seen in both Oprah Winfrey’s life and in her works, the book, “The uncommon wisdom of Oprah Winfrey” and her TV show, “The Oprah Winfrey show.” Oprah Winfrey was born on January 29th, 1954. She grew up in a rural town in the state of Mississippi. Oprah had a very different upbringing than most people.

The Oprah Winfrey Show has changed the lives of people. The show has featured many celebrities as well as everyday people. Most of the topics spoken of are struggle and how to overcome that through perseverance. For instance, in one of Oprah’s episodes she had 200 adult men come forward about being molested all throughout their childhood. Oprah having been molested through out her childhood too talks to these men on the show and tried to get the word out that this stuff happens and a stand needs to be taken. Oprah begins the show by saying “Its time to end the shame and the fear and the guilt and the secrets, no more, today is about becoming free for all of these men.” (200 adult men who were molested come forward) The men talked about how they dealt with it throughout their lives and the effects it still has on them today with their sexual parents or even their mental state because of it, but they all have persevered through out the situations they were put in and have finally put it to …show more content…

As a journalist, Peterson’s job is to report the facts, not give his unsolicited opinion on the situation. This is also dangerous because, not only is he shaming the victim’s personal choice to remain silent but he is also forcing his own beliefs on readers who are simply trying to become more familiar with the scandal. By reading about his personal opinions within the article, Peterson demonstrates a lack of empathy for anyone who has dealt with sexual abuse and as a result, readers may find that his argument is unable to sound

These amazing women with different nationalities, backgrounds, and pathways to leadership have devoted themselves to their communities thus changing the world.
Laurie Halse Anderson's Speak is a novel that makes a definite argument. In short, the novel argues that if you are a victim of a sexual assault, you will need to speak about it in order for yourself to grow and heal. As you probably know, there are lots of difficult reasons why victims of sexual assault might have a hard time speaking up about what's happened to them. Like Melinda Sordino, main character of Speak, they might be ashamed or afraid of what will happen if they tell. Speak is the story of Melinda Sordino, a high school freshman.
Consistently, when a sexual assault victim speaks out about their expereinces, they . They are shut down, with people claiming that they are only seeking attention. Emily claims “he’s gorgeous… he’s rich” (Anderson 90). D, due to stereotypes in the 1990’s, Andy’s statement (where is Andy’s statement?) is much more significant than Melinda’s.
Opal’s experience also makes it clear that more awareness and action needs to be brought to women that are facing abuse and violence in Native American communities. Another character who has
The documentary The Hunting Ground by Kirby Dick was created specifically to spread awareness of the vast problem of sexual assault on college campuses and to try to show that the problem needs to be solved. The creator wanted those struggling with their sexual assault and the unfair treatment they were exposed to, as well as anyone who may have to go through sexual assault in the future, to know that the problem of sexual assault that universities tried to hide in the dark is finally being given the spotlight they deserve. The spark of this idea of the documentary was the many stories of survivors across the nation from many different universities, specifically the story of Annie and Andrea who helped other survivors get the justice they deserve.
She really broke the boundaries with women working. She was able to show millions of women everywhere that just because you are a woman, that it does not mean that you

Carrie! Carrie! You hear the crowd yell her name. Carrie underwood was born march 10, 1983. She overcome extreme amount of things in her life, and is a very implicational person.
I believe that this has to do with her attitude that she has today. By the struggles she went through, she gained experience to develop a positive attitude. She was able to change her life around, this television show has helped her get her voice out to the world and help many women who are facing the same thing as she did. I believe that this is a great accomplishment that she achieved and was able to share her stories to her audience about her childhood when she was growing up. Beside the Oprah show and her life for books, she was also a great actress.
As I watched the documentary “Road Beyond Abuse,” I experienced a whirlwind of emotions. From disgusted and disappointed to impressed and joyful, I felt it all. It truly disturbed me to hear about the experiences both Michael McCain and Johnnetta McSwain endured. I was disgusted that no one protected these innocent children from being verbally abused, beaten, raped, and left to fend for themselves. It was shocking to hear that these children withstood this amount of abuse from their family members until they were teenagers.
With continued persistence, Oprah gained her own television talk show and is now the highest-paid performer on television. Oprah’s ambition was what drove her to continue her fight through her hard childhood, and make a positive, healthy life for herself. If Oprah lacked the ambitious qualities that she had and gave up, she would likely be trapped as a damaged and troubled woman who let her passed experience define who she
Life is a journey that is challenging for many people. As a result, many do not live up to their full potential. Nevertheless, there are always few distinguished people in every generation who master the art of living better than everyone else. Such individuals emerge as icons of the society and leave phenomenal legacies. Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, and Maya Angelou are outstanding souls who made their communities and the world a better place.
A simple exaggeration, and yet her statement in it of itself reflects societal backlash and controversy associated with the release of harrowing accounts of countless women coming forward. Furthermore, Oprah subtly explores the idea of a patriarchy, a pecking order otherwise consisting of male dominance and superiority. This is evident through her constant repetition of female pronouns when discussing recent controversies and movements throughout her speech as opposed to her use of male pronouns in parts of tension and discomfort in
