How the Study of Stylistics / Language in Literature Can Help Improve One’s English Language.
English language which is now an international language was first from early medieval England. Now, most countries speak English as their second language except United kingdom, united states, new Zealand, Canada, Australia, Ireland, and Caribbean. It stands in the third place native language all around the world. Many countries received the English language influence when the whites monopolized the other countries. Through imperialism, the spreaded as the whites talk to the citizens of other countries. Since stylistic studies teach new vocabularies, one can interpret a text correctly from different language translate it into English. For example, my native language is Tamil and if I write my ideas in Tamil, not everyone can understand the text except for Indians. So when I translate my ideas in English, my ideas shouldn’t run away from the actual meaning of my concept when I translate it into English. Remarkably, stylistic studies which help to improve English vocabulary, this contribute to use a suitable terms to convey my ideas. Reversely, if I want to translate the English sentences in Tamil, I need to understand the English terms deeply so that I do not misunderstand the meaning while I translate to my native language. If I translate wrongly, the wrong concepts are the one that I am going to focus. But if we follow the right track, it help one to improve the language. Come back to stylistic studies, the main notion of this study is giving acknowledgement of how to translate the literature language to linguictic form because not everyone can understand some particular words from literature, but if it is translated to basic language, it show how good one had master the English language. When one study stylistics, there is a topic on meter and rhyme. When study about meter, one should focus on syllable and relative stress on syllable. Through syllable, there are beats in a word. So when one wants to hear the beats clearly, one has to pronouns the word carefully. Sometimes there is higher beat in a word which is mentioned as stress. So the stressed beat should be read louder and with higher pitch. If the vowel quality is low, then the syllable will be weak too. Rhythm helps meter knowledge to read a phrase with stressed and unstressed syllable. Without realizing, one is learning to pronouns a word correctly and implies great intonation which makes the English language to be spoken as standard English. Metre is the basic rhythmic structure of a line or verse in a poem. In Jessica Jopp’s poem, “Why poetry cannot be skimmed” these word manipulation tools are used to convey the importance and seriousness of poetry. Third and Indiana While reading the novel “Third and Indiana I came across a plethora of themes. Lopez used a handful of literary techniques to enhance this specific theme. The author presents the symbol/ theme of wealth to be the root of all evil. He also uses such a unique diction throughout the book to create the theme. Two of the many characters, Gabriel and Eddie, portray the risks they’re willing to take to fulfill their need for money.
In Flannery O’Connor’s short stories, “A good man is hard to find” and “Good country people”, O’Connor utilizes multiple stylistic elements in her writing to create a complex and compelling plot line. These elements, such as moments of growing tension and resolve or relying on faith when a character experiences extreme fear, are key components that add direction and meaning to both of her short stories. Other examples such as headstrong females, like the grandmother from “A good man is hard to find” and Joy/Hulga from “Good country people”, shows how two different types of women can still have dignity despite their own faults. In short, Flannery O’Connor utilizes multiple stylistic elements in her short stories to create a meaningful and compelling tale of people from the south.
Mr. Freeman once said that “Art is about making mistakes and learning from them.” Melinda Sordino, the protagonist in the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, could certainly relate to that. During the beginning of the book, Melinda suffers from PTSD due to her being raped by Andy Evans that summer. She has no friends to talk to, and she will not talk to her parents. Over the course of the book, Melinda gains a few friends and slowly learns how to speak again.
The prominent use of archetypes in literature is especially evident in hero stories, for these patterns help the reader identify with the major characters. In John Knowles’ A Separate Peace (1959) and Thomas Malory’s Le Morte D’Arthur (1889), these models help develop the characters into remarkable leaders. Though authors attempt to create original character in their works, often characters, such as King Arthur and Atticus, have “The Magician” and “The Ruler” archetypes in common. An archetype is marked as a persistent symbol or motif in literature, art, or mythology.
Australian author, Tim Winton (named a Living Treasure by the National Trust in 2007) has won numerous literary awards for his, children's books, non-fiction books, and short stories. Winton creates a connection between his book and his audience in a very spectacular manner as he creates a real feeling and attachment between the audience and his books. The three techniques that Winton uses within his stories is to make a theme, create a character for each person and then make a setting for the story. The key messages behind these three stories (On Her Knees, Sand and Immunity), each different however they all connect to the target audience and force them to think about their own life. ‘On Her Knees’ sends a message saying to never give up and keep your dignity.
It is important to understand where the language came from if you want to know its true meaning and value. When you understand a language's true meaning, then you are able to communicate effectively. You are able to persuade the reader into your world of imagination. True intelligence is born from an accurate understanding of language roots, " Such intelligence does not grow by bloating upon the ephemeral information and misinformation of the public media. It grows by returning again and again to the landmarks of its cultural birthright, the works that have proved worthy of devoted attention" (Berry8).

Translation is a complicated task, during which the meaning of the source-language text should be conveyed to the target-language readers.
