Adnan Syed: Guilty or Innocent?
On January 13, 1999, a high schooler named Hae Min Lee was murdered. Police instantly questioned anyone who may be associated with the case. Everyone stated what they knew about the murder, but all the pieces contradicted one another. Is Adnan innocent or guilty? The case of Hae Min Lee disappearing struck everyone. It was an ordinary day until Hae’s cousin’s family noticed she didn't pick her little cousin up. Adnan Syed, an ex-boyfriend of Hae’s, and Jay Wilds, the witness that testified against Adnan in court, are two suspects that could have murdered Hae. Sarah Keonig, an investigator from the Serial Podcast, is curious about what really occurred and reopened the case practically seventeen years later. As

Rabia, a lawyer and advocate for Adnan’s innocence, was discussing with Sarah Koenig about how Adnan was a good student who's smart, kind, goofy, and handsome. Rabia concludes, “He was an honor roll student, volunteer EMT. He was on the football team. He was a star runner on the track team. He was the homecoming king. He led prayers at the mosque. Everybody knew Adnan to be somebody who was going to do something really big” (Ep. 1, p. 4). Here, Rabia is saying that Adnan was involved in a lot of school related activities and people viewed him as a successful person. Usually, people with a handful of things to do wouldn't have time to murder someone. Sarah Koenig continues to elaborate how Adnan was overall an exceptional student who wouldn’t suddenly lash out and murder his ex-girlfriend, “He was prince of his junior prom, and this at a high school that was majority black. They picked the Pakistani Muslim kid. So you get the picture. He was an incredibly likable and well-liked kid” (Ep. 1, p. 5). To put it differently, nobody had anything against Adnan and he held a good reputation. Normally people won’t suspect a likable person to kill someone. Therefore, Adnan is innocent because he is an amiable person and doesn't have time to kill somebody due to participating in various school
Adnan had challenged Sarah Koenig by”[telling] her to test the state's timeline of the murder by driving from Woodlawn High School to best buy in 21 minutes. It can’t be done he said. So Sarah and Dana take up the challenge, and raise him one: They try to recreate the entire route that Jay said him and Adnan took on January 13th, 1999”(Route Talk, Sarah Koenig). Adnan was convicted with a route that Jay mapped out to the police men involved in his case. Sarah Koenig was challenged due to the delay at school and traffic than any other time of day because it was when his peers and unknown worker in the area were dismissed.
On January 13, 1999, in Baltimore, Maryland, Woodlawn High School senior Hae Min Lee disappeared. Her body was later found on February 9, 1999 in Leakin Park. The primary suspect of Hae Lee’s murder by strangulation was her ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed. He has been convicted of first degree murder and has served 17 years. Through the testimonies of the many witnesses and other evidence collected, it is evident that Adnan Syed is guilty of Hae Min Lee’s murder, however, this is case has grown very controversial, especially after Serial’s release, and many believe the justice system failed Adnan; the members of our society trust our justice system, it is not always perfect, it has flaws, but it is still expected to carry out its function, to protect the innocent, and every time
Syed was arrested in 1999 and later convicted for the murder of his ex-girlfriend. At the time of his arrest Adnan was an eighteen- year -old honors student at Woodlawn High school in Baltimore, Maryland. Despite the fact that there was no physical evidence connecting him to the crime,The testimony of one of his former friends. Adnan stated he had been with his friend at a get-together on the night of Haes disappearance and had no idea that she was missing until after the fact. He continued to maintain his innocence throughout the interview, expressing his shock and disappointment at the accusations.
The Serial podcast narrated by Sarah Koenig. Tells a story about a teenage boy Adnan Syed who was falsely accused of the murder of his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee. For the past months tuning in on this podcast I have not been convinced that there is any physical evidence, or anything that can in fact draw Adnan to this crime. The evidence is indeed flimsy. I have come to the conclusion that with the lack of evidence that Adnan is indeed innocent.
On February 9, 1999 Hae Min Lee was found in Leakin Park, Baltimore, Maryland with signs of manual strangulation. The state claimed that Adnan Syed, Hae’s former boyfriend at the time was responsible because they believed he was enraged of their relationship ending. My claim is Adnan Syed is likely not responsible for the death of Hae Min Lee, because there was insufficient evidence to prove he was guilty and the trial was unfair, it was based more on his racial background than the actual case itself. Adnan can be proved innocent with Don’s odd alibi and suspicions.
Adnan Paper Adnan Syed was eighteen years old when he was accused of murdering his ex girlfriend Hae. Hae was the same age as Adnan and they attended the same school. There are many pieces of evidence for whether he is guilty or not. These pieces of evidence can be both positive and negative in his case.
Adnan Syed On January 13, 1999 Hae lee a high school student went missing. She was strangled in her car. She was later found buried in Leakin Park. They had arrested Adnan Syed the ex-boyfriend they convicted him of murdering Hae lee and gave him 6 to life in Jail.
On January 13th, 1999, a popular senior at Woodlawn High School in Baltimore, Maryland, disappears. The girl, Hae Min Lee, was later found in Leakin Park with marks proving she was strangled to death. Six weeks later, Adnan Syed, Lee’s classmate and ex-boyfriend, was arrested and sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years. A friend of Adnan, Jay, who graduated the spring prior from Woodlawn, is the only person with a timeline for the 13th of January and, unfortunately, it makes Adnan look guilty. But, with multiple inconsistencies and stories that do not match the other gathered evidence, Jay’s story is not perfect.
Adnan is then accused of the murder of his former girlfriend. Adnan Syed is not guilty. He did not kill Hae Min out of spite after they split, he is never seen with Hae after school or in her car, and he has a strong alibi with two witnesses. Adnan did not kill Hae out of spite as they had a mutual breakup.
However, despite the conviction the whereabouts of Adnan Syed are very blurry on the day of Hae Min Lee’s death. Asia McClain,
Adnan is Innocent Do you remember what you did on this day, exactly one week ago? You might remember some things about that day, or you might remember nothing. How about if I asked what you did 6 weeks ago on this day? Could you tell me?
Soon after Adnan Syed, the ex- boyfriend, of Hae was arrested by the police and was sentenced life in prison. The case against Adnan was based on the testimony of Adnan’s friend, Jay. Jay testified that he helped Adnan bury Hae’s body, but Jay’s story does not match up with the cell phone records, and seems to change every time it is told. The prosecution argued that Adnan killed Hae Lee because he felt betrayed, and that he sacrificed his religion for her. Christina Gutierrez, Adnan’s lawyer, provided ineffective assistance to Adnan.
Adnan Syed was a big guy who lived in Baltimore the location of low-income immigrants was convicted in the case of killing Hae Min Lee his ex-girlfriend on January 13, 1999. Who was described as a beautiful athletic girl, smart and responsible. Hae’s body was found February 9, 1999, in Leakin Park by a maintenance guy named Mr.S.The cause of Hae’s death was strangled to death. Adnan was arrested February 28, 1999, for her murder. The state thinks because Adnan is an EMT he would know how to strangle and revive.
Relationships, lies, murder, conviction. These are all aspects that come into play when talking about the January 13th, 1999 murder of high school student Hae Min Lee. Adnan Syed, Hae’s 17-year-old ex-boyfriend was convicted of her murder in 2000. The problem with this is that the only evidence the state had to convict Adnan was the stories told by others, specifically someone named Jay who was with Adnan for some of the day Hae went missing and had possession of Adnan’s car and cell phone. He claims Adnan made him come pick him up after the murder was committed and assist him in burying Hae’s body.
Of course, many people think Adnan Syed is guilty of murdering Hae by contradicting himself, by saying, “I am in here for my own mistakes.” He might have been on the edge of confessing his guilt until Sarah caught this and asked what he meant, and quickly recovers from his mistake. Adnan also slips his tongue by saying that he wants people to only look at the evidence, and not his personality. If I were convicted of a crime I would certainly like to have my personality be looked at, if I were innocent. So they could see what good I have done.
