Having knowledge in the world today is a very great trait to have. To replace this great trait with ignorance would be wrong and would cause stress and would cause one’s self to become a fool. When knowledge is obtained, you will achieve great things and have much advancements. In the novel, The Great Gatsby, is about a man named Nick Carraway who follows Jay Gatsby, a man who has one dream, which is to reunite with the love of his life, Daisy Buchanan. This quest later leads Gatsby from poverty to wealth, when he reunites with Daisy this would eventually lead to his death and making him fail to fulfill his American Dream. This is because in chapter 8, Nick suggests that Gatsby to just forget about Daisy and leave Long Island, but Gatsby refuses to consider leaving Daisy behind until he knew what she was going to do. This chapter shows that knowledge is power because if Gatsby wasn’t so ignorant and was more opened and listened to Nick when he told him to move away and to leave Daisy, he would have never have died at the end of the story. If Gatsby saw things more clearly and had more knowledge of what was going on during that time he would realize that Daisy is just causing him to break apart as a person and would eventually led to his downfall. This is because in chapter 7, Tom accuses Gatsby of running a bootlegging operation. When Daisy heard this, she couldn’t believe it and kept denying the truth about Gatsby. This chapter shows that knowledge is power because if Daisy knew about Gatsby running a bootlegging operation much earlier in the story, she wouldn’t even have seen Gatsby again. Gatsby wouldn’t have stressed and falling apart as a person because Daisy wouldn’t have been in his life too. Daisy didn’t realize this earlier in the novel because she was blinded by the wealth and power that Gatsby has through his bootlegging operation.
