The Great Gatsby Final Essay In the novel The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald, the most despicable people are Daisy and Tom Buchanan. They are also married with a child. These characters are known to be very greedy, selfish and just outright despicable. No words can really describe what their personalities are because they change so often. Tom was cheat and make love to other women while also abusing them if they didn’t do what he wanted and it made Daisy look so stupid. And while all that’s happening Daisy meets her first love that she hasn’t seen in five years, and that changes everything. Although this novel is very interesting and dramatic, when people read it, they develop a lot of hatred toward these two characters but then understand both parts in an unusual way. Tom Buchanan was a very wealthy guy. He was rich and had a beautiful child with his wife of five years. He was also known as the “bad boy.” Because of his college reputations he has the nicknames “The Athlete” or “The Polo-Player.” Tom is known to have a racial attitude and believes that there should be no intermarriages between black and whites. They are all fascinated by her and she enjoys being the center of attention. But there is something wrong with her as this quote says “Sometimes she gets foolish ideas in her head and doesn’t know what she’s doing.” (Fitzgerald 96) When she met Gatsby after five years, he was all she thought about and Gatsby fell in love with her all over again, way more than before. Gatsby was dedicated to win her back and he would do anything and everything for her but she took it all for granted. She has a careless personality which can be seen by her hit-and-run accident in which Myrtle Wilson was killed
