The infamous answer to the question, “What is your primary goal for going to school?” is “to further my education, get a job, and be successful” such a cliché if I must say myself. My goal attending school is to make my family happy, as well as myself. In high school, I did not apply myself like I should have done because I was not sure if college was in my favor. Also, being the child of a single parent wanting to attend college seemed impossible, especially far from home. In a family where no one has surpassed the first two years of college, I feel a spotlight is on me to not only finish, but also finish strong. First off, I am humbled to be considered for membership of the National Honor Society. In my opinion on the foundation of the four pillars of NHS the FPC NHS chapter will benefit from my membership because I will bring intellect, drive, leadership, character, dedication to serve my community, honesty, respect, pride, discipline, compassion and among many other qualities a sense of humor.

I have chosen public health as my major because it is a dynamic field. I have a passion for making a difference in people’s lives and helping others achieve their goals. It is with great passion that I am dedicated and willing to contribute my service or skills to help someone in need. My philosophy of health education is very simple, to prevent, improve and educate the lives of individuals, families, communities, populations, and societies. When I was in the fifth grade I had joined West Side Boys & Girls Club they had opened my eyes on how to be friendly and how to respect others around you.They had prepared me on how to include people and how to open up myself and how to get ready for college and what it has to offer me.

The reason I am so motivated to go to college is because I have the opportunity to be the first in my family to attend college. Seeing my parents struggle with money because they can’t get a decent paying job is one of the reasons I desire to go to college. I know by going to college, and doing what I love, I will be able to enjoy what I’m doing while being able to have a improved life than I had experienced. When I have my own family, I want them to know I did something tremendous with my life and be proud of me as a parent. I want to be able to provide them the life my parents weren’t able to give me.

Throughout my adolescent life, I never had an idea of what I wanted to do as a career. It seemed as if all my peers had some kind of idea but I was just stuck. If I knew one thing about what I wanted to do when I was older, it would be that I wanted to help make a difference for the better along with helping others improve their lives. When I decided that I wanted to major in criminal justice, I kept that factor in mind. So far, my life has been full of change. I was born in, India, and moved around for many of the early years of my life. I went from, Toronto, Dayton, Cincinnati, Wheaton, and finally, Elk Grove Village, in a six-year span of my life. These formative years were great for me because my parents always pushed me to do my best. Academically, I was pushed into performing the best I could such as trying my best in English class even though it was a struggle in the beginning. Socially, I was pushed into situations that I had to adapt to, such as changing schools every couple years.
