"Go already, you imbecile!" I yell phrases like is on a daily basis for one reason alone — texting while driving. My frequent mode of travel is by car, so I am experienced both behind the wheel and in the passenger seat. I have just finished drivers education, w h means the traffic law that we studied are still freshly embedded in my mind. In addition, my family and I have a very clean driving record. However, we have been victims of texting while driving. It aggravates me how people neglect the rules of the road. My pet peeve is when people text while drive because it creates a hazardous driving environment and disrupts the flow of traffic.
While distracted driving is a big issue in the United States, I firmly believe that the use of smartphones is one of, if not, the largest distractions Americans face today while driving. It seems that for some reason people can not wait until they are done driving, to wherever it is they are headed, to check their phone. Yes, I understand that in some situations people will have an emergency where they have to look at their phone, but in a vast majority of instances this is not the case. There are a few things that could be implemented that could persuade people to resist the urge to check their phones while driving such as banning the use of cellular devices in vehicles all together, fixing vehicles so that they cannot emit WiFi anymore, also implementing a device in vehicles that could make the inside of a vehicle a dead zone.
Credibility Statement: I researched and found stories of information about teens and adults getting killed using cell phones without looking on the road. I have a lot against people who take their eyes off the road just for a text that’s not emergences or important.
The general argument made by Matt Richtel in his work, “Driving While Distracted” is that use of cellphones should be banned while in cars. More specifically Ritchel argues that using cellphones in cars can lead to injury, death, and overall danger. He writes “Studies indicate that drivers using cellphones are four times as likely to cause a crash as other drivers” (11). Richtel is suggesting how dangerous the use of these devices can actually be. Cellphone use can magnify the the potential hazards of being in a car to a great extent. The author believes that if cellphones are banned, the safety of many drivers would be increased. Drivers would no longer have their lives at risk if their distractions were reduced.
Would you agree that being on the phone while driving is not safe for you or anyone around you? I agree with the law that in some states it is illegal to drive while using handheld cell phones because the driver could get distracted easily, it is very dangerous, and it could cause car accidents. Phones can be very distracting. If the driver is worried about something happening on their phone they are less likely to pay attention to the road. Also, if the driver is in an argument with someone over the phone and it is really bothering them, they would have their mind on that and not the road. If the driver would just leave their phone down until they got to where they were going to reply they would have more focus on the road. The driver would be less
Today, with the increase in technological dependency, many car accidents are caused by the use of cellphones while driving. However, if a law restricts people from using their cellphones while driving, the amount of lawbreaking in the United States would increase and people would be more consumed in worrying about not using their phones than actually focusing on driving their best, potentially causing more accidents. I do not support this law and disagree with the idea of illegalizing cellphone use while driving. It has become part of human nature to rely on technological advances for a myriad of things. It would be very difficult for someone to suddenly break the habit of reaching for their phone while driving, if he or she is so dependent on those
When an induvial is distracted while driving they are endangering their own safety and the safety of others around them. When drivers decide to divert their attention from the road this is called distracted driving and that is against the law. The fact is that cell phone manufacturers can’t tell users what they can and can’t do with their devices. Cell phones makes our lives generally easier, they allow us to be accessible at any moment in time and in place around the world. And, it’s truly sad to say that there is a high percentage of individuals that use their cellphones while driving. So, why should cellphone companies should be responsible for the millions of devices that were created and disturibed from their facilities. Although, they
We all see the commercials about people that get in a crash and die from using their cellphones while driving. Although most drivers feel that they are to good of drivers and that could never happen to them. Many drivers still do this without thinking of the outcome of this foolish act. Driving and using cellphone or handheld device kills many drivers each day. Some states are making it illegal to using this device while driving. I fully agree with this law and it should be applied in all states in the United States. This law will make driver safer and the road safe too. Although many experienced drivers feel that they can drive and be on their device at the time. However it is impossible to give your full attention to the road while on your device. It doesn 't
Distracted driving is any activity that takes away a person’s attention from driving. Results from this action can range from minor to major consequences.
Using a cell phone while driving is dangerous. This is why some states have made it illegal to drive while using a handheld cell phone. This makes the roads much safer as it takes a potential distraction away from the driver, this leads to less car crashes, and safer roads By taking this potential distraction away from a driver you allow that person to focus more on what they are supposed to be doing which is driving. In doing so the driver is better able to react in potentially hazardous situations. Also in a car having a real person to talk to can be distracting but while you are on a cell phone you have to hold onto the phone, and the steering wheel. You also have to be focus on the the road and cars ahead of you while trying to pay attention to the person on the phone call.
I think that handheld devices should be banned while driving because drivers do not pay as much attention when they are using their devices. I have personally witnessed someone texting and weaving through traffic, causing other cars to get into the emergency lane to avoid getting hit. When distracted by their cell phones, people may not pay attention to stop signs, “speed limit reduced” areas, or other vehicles stopped on the side of the road. Using a handheld device is dangerous because it is a potentially deadly distraction, it is illegal, and keeps drivers unaware of their surroundings.
We have all heard that texting and driving is bad, but can having a conversation be just as bad or even worse? While driving, the brain needs almost full focus in order to drive safely since there are many actions happening at once. When a person talks or texts on a phone, it is taking away focus the brain needs to drive safely, which can lead to a fatal car accident. Over one-million car accidents a year are said to be caused by cell phone distractions. Are cell phones the real problem, or is it just the driver?
While many people know cell phones can cause a distraction while driving, cell phones are only one of many distractions drivers regularly face. Here are some other driving distractions we encourage you to avoid:
Each year, drivers who use cell phones cause 1.6 million car accidents and nearly 330,000 injuries. Considering that cell phones are one of the greatest items to happen, it makes things easier to accomplish without having to do much effort, communicating with anyone around the world, but there should be a limit when it could endanger other people’s lives. It is not only the phones that drivers are distracted by, it is also foods, drinks, conversing, and listening to loud music. Someone can lose their life all because of a simple act such as texting and taking a selfie while driving. There are numerous cases that involve a person getting hurt or worse, killed, because there was a driver being distracted. Clearly, the government and lawmakers need to create stronger laws to eliminate all distractions that cause deadly car accidents which mainly involve teenagers.
CS: I have actually used my phone while driving but I was lucky and nothing happened besides me sliding off the road. Since then I have decided to do research to persuade you not to text and drive.
