Displaced from their homeland, many of the old traditions and practices of Hmong refugees are re-established in their new abodes in Washington Park. They reproduce their home in alien buildings built by 20th Century German Americans. Duplexes, four-squares, and Victorian cottages become stage sets where daily life and practices of Hmong families unfold, where memories and practices from the past are enacted and remembered. Buildings are cultural products—the interior layout of rooms, the relationship between various interior spaces, the visual and architectural character reflect the cultural values of those who built these structures. Doors, walls, entrances act as boundaries between various social domains— public, private, male, female, nature, culture, leisure, and recreation.
Forest Acres is a community located in Richland County of Columbia, South Carolina. It is a community that was incorporated in the year 1935 near the waters of Dent’s Pond, now known as Forest Lake, due to John Hughes Cooper and James Henry Hammond both having real estate interests in the area. After Cooper purchased Dent’s Pond (Forest Lake) and 1,700 acres of land, Hammond purchased 67 acres from Cooper on Quinine Hill; developing it into a suburban area for local businessmen who worked in the downtown area. In order for Cooper and Hammond to name this location, a petition was signed by residents; voting on whether to name the area Forest Acres or Quinine Hill. As a result, the name Forest Acres won majority votes; making it the official
Liven up your living space with a range of patio designs The current trend of making your home look better is catching on and there are many people who have joined the bandwagon and it is quite easy to see why the people are getting so hooked into this trend because as we know reconstruction expenses on a house are enormous and no matter what the finance company may tell you that it adds value to your house, the end result is that it takes a lot of time and effort just to build up a few thousand dollars, in turn, people have now taken up a less expensive and effective way to expand their homes with the use of a simple patio which is now becoming very quickly adopted throughout the suburban neighbourhoods and this has given rise to a whole new range of patio designs as well as more and more people adopt the trend. In basic, the patio is made up of

When talking about the church, a person must keep in mind the rituals that are performed usually by said churches. Sometimes these rituals are traditional, but you must not forget that the church does attempt to avoid such practices unless they were to adapt to such a stale lifestyle. To do this churches use genres to help impact the action going on in-/outside of the church—by that, of course, churches also vary in actions. Johnathan Swales tells us that, “a discourse community utilizes and hence possesses one or more genres in the communicative furtherance of its aims” (221). The church most dearest to me is none other than Titus Harvest Dome.
But community gardens were also a way to visualize how people have adapted to the environment and better changed. The quote“The city is the fastest growing ecosystem” (Eric Bender) Is true, as not only do animals have to evolve to adapt to the changing environment, humans have to as well. During the disaster of the Great Depression, people opted-in to adapt to the current situation, there were limited food supplies and money was hard to option which prompted them to change and adapt by using community
Green Acres’s grounds are very lush and green with lots of bushes and very large, shady trees. Everything appears to be very well kept up, with some areas even giving me a “golf-course” like vibe.
President John F. Kennedy had once said to the United Nations against the Soviet Union, “Conformity is the jailer of freedom, and the enemy of growth.” Kennedy talks about how monotony limits the possibilities of achieving freedom. Making people be the same as everyone else constricts people’s ability to choice and liberty. Conformity doesn’t allow people to change, to grow since they won’t be able to because they have to be the same as everyone else.
In class we had a discussion about the final of the chapter of the book, Candide, where Candide said, “We must cultivate our garden.” In our class discussion we talked about what could Candide possibly mean by this statement. To me what this statement was a response throughout all the events he encountered during his adventure to Cunegonde and although it wasn’t said, it was implied that he also wanted an answer to deal with life. The reason I say this is because in the novel we meet Pangloss the philosopher of optimism and he was Candide’s mentor, being that he was Candide’s mentor of course Candide would follow Pangloss’s words. However, Pangloss’s words of optimism seems to have fallen through because with each and every event Candide encounters there were not of great outcomes, for example, when Candide was infatuated with Cunegonde in the castle, they ended up kissing, but as for Candide he got kicked out of the castle.
In the novel Candide written by Voltaire, one of the main motifs is the garden. It has been mentioned multiple times throughout the book. The first garden was the Castle of baron Thunder-Ten- Tronckh, there is the garden of Eldorado, and Candide's final garden. As a main motif, the garden symbolizes people's lives and how they must nurture them to have a good outcome. The garden is used cleverly throughout the novel to convey an optimistic moral about the importance of gardens' cultivation that determines the life and fate of the characters.
New designs have been adopted since the onset of architecture, and thus, with the concentration of a history of architecture, new phenomenon and innovations are realized that would help in further explanation and address of other necessities in the same sector. There are mostly two kinds of Roofing these days. First is the Commercial and other one is the Residential Roofing. Commercial Roofing is used to ensure and seal the highest point of commercial structures while residential roofing is for the security of the private houses and flats. It covers basic entries and avoids leakage of rain water from entering the building. Commercial Roofing by and large has a generally level slant, instead of Residential Roofing, which is regularly steeply inclined.
