Simple metal detectors placed on the outside of each door to schools will help detect any piece of metal entering the school preventing weapons such as guns and knives. This also helps students psychologically feel safer when entering schools by knowing anyone carrying a weapon will be noticed and stopped. This is also a good first step by taking action to stop mass killings in America. Currently, the United States is in the top ten of mass school killings worldwide five times, shown on a list compiled on Wikipedia last updated March 2nd 2018. Other countries took action after the first incident by banning certain weapons or increasing security, the U.S still needs to take action.
It says that a teacher who is qualified to have a gun could end an attack quickly. At our school, only the teachers who feel comfortable and are qualified should have a weapon at our school. All teachers who carry guns would need to take a concealed carry class and practice on a monthly basis. Teachers should make a plan that will help protect their students until first responders arrive. Students should not know which teacher carries guns because an unstable person could take their gun.
Outline of the Argument Problem: The limited amount of security in schools across the United States has resulted in several deaths or injury of students and faculty members due mass gun shootings Issue: There has been an increase in the amount of school shootings by guns. Question: Should schools implement safety measures to prevent mass gun shootings? Claim: Schools and Congress should work together to implement purposeful security measures to increase the levels of safety and security.
In the end school shootings have been a big problem and over the years the government has done many things to protect us from deaths by firearms and school shootings. They have been making it harder and harder to obtain a firearm which is really what was necessary to do. Making it difficult to get a firearm into a school and knowing how to handle a school shooting situation will save lives if anything were to happen like that again. I feel gun control laws will get stricter and the schools and world will get safer.
If we change the laws and have juveniles tried as adults the crime rate in the United States will greatly decrease. The parents will start teaching their children responsibility and the teenagers will know that their actions will have consequences. There would also be less people in rehab centers as adults because they will learn as teenagers and not need to still be in trouble as adults. There is no reason to give the same crime different penalties because of a person’s age. If they can commit the same crime as an adult then they should pay the same price as an
A simple way to stop school shootings in our district would be by eliminating all the factors that form a school shooter. Most school shooter suffered from bullying or had some sort of mental illness. In order to minimize the chance of a kid becoming a school shooter, we need to increase awareness.
Several possible solutions to gun related crimes are being discussed. An idea that has been considered prior to the recent Parkland school shooting where 17 were killed is being looked at closely; Some believe that arming certain staff, whether teachers or security personnel in schools could help to prevent school shootings. The issue that is being considered with this idea is that it presents a safety hazard if a firearm entered the wrong hands. Lawmakers are also pushing for the age limitation on firearm sales to be raised from 18 years of age to 21 years of age. It is possible that this heightened restriction could reduce school shootings due to the idea that students could not legally purchase firearms.
School shootings and gun violence have regrettably become a major issue in America today. The frequency of these acts of hatred are increasing and an increasing number of people are debating about necessary precautions. The most recent school shooting in America occurred this past week and the victims of it are raising their voices for the world to hear. There needs to be better, more efficient policies put in place regarding school safety and gun control to ensure this type of heinous crime does not happen ever again. There are people who say this is a matter of mental illness and others who say this is about gun control.
There is an old saying that “guns do not kill people, people kill people’’ which means that shooters need to be stopped. However, the most effective way to combat deadly violence in school is to restrict access to guns. Furthermore, in order to decrease the number of mass shootings, Americans have to tackle the issue of gun control and what should be the legal requirements for citizens to bear arms.
School is the place where one should learn life skills and where one learns more about who you they are while setting the base for their future; in fact. it has the power to prevent crime (Boone). School administrators need to recognize that children are still children and if they continue to criminalize them, that is exactly what they will become. The longer it takes for these policies to be eliminated from school districts, statistics will increase. Teachers should take in consideration the various backgrounds students come from, allowing them to understand why a student may misbehave.
Many shootings happen in schools everywhere like the shooting at Sandy Hook, a senseless tragedy for the students and teachers. The shooting happened December 14, 2012 in Newtown, Connecticut. The shooter was a 20-year-old man named Adam Lanza. He killed 20 children and 6 staff members. Another example is the Columbine High School Massacre, a school shooting that occurred on April 20, 1999, at the Columbine High School in Columbine.
A school shooting is a traumatic event that requires early and effective intervention. Children are vulnerable to psychological stress which can cause devastating effects without proper intervention. The goals of my intervention plan are to clarify the cause of the shooting, stabilize the situation as soon as possible, mobilize necessary resources, normalize of the situation, get the victims to safety and facilitate healing and access to help for those who need it. The first step will be an immediate action of mobilizing the necessary personnel and resources to aid in the intervention process.
Many schools are considering applying a controversial initiative which is arming teachers because of the fact that school shootings have been happening more often since Columbine. According to the Washington Post ,“...mass public shootings are on the rise, and schools are now viewed as vulnerable targets. One of the deadliest in history claimed 28 lives, including 20 children, after Adam Lanza opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., in 2012” (Wang). This shooting was the first mass shooting to really make parents consider their children's safety in public schools and have left some wondering what actions can be taken to prevent these shooting Yanan Wang shows the worry in her recent Washington Post article saying, “These
Things we can do to stop Mass Shootings Time and time again you look at the news and see a new mass shooting and instead of addressing the issue and trying to stop future ones from happening. We just have arguments about guns and how if everyone was armed it would have been different. While the news does nothing but talk about the shooter and very little about the victims of the shooting. When a person commits a mass shooting it should be taken an act of terrorism as this is literally an act that is not only bringing terror to the citizens by it effects. Ultimately hurting and killing those around that happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
