Over the past decades, obesity is a serious issue which government should take into a consideration. In fact, it has been discussed for years but still could not manage to find a proper solution to overcome this problem. Government and health care departments have provided so many information regarding it but providing information is not enough in some cases, the government should take notice and care about the fast foods. So, to prevent the negative effects spreading of the fast food culture, I agree that the government should implement more taxes on soft drinks and junk food. An increase in taxes would enhance the awareness of society. This is because, in general people do not care about the health information, but when the subject is money then they will consider about the raise in taxes and will lessen the total intake of those foods. Taxes should not be imposed in soft drinks and junk food by the government because genetic factors also cause obesity. However, in my point of view, the government should do so because consuming too much of soft drinks and junk food causes obesity. If the government raises the …show more content…
This is because, it is not sure whether or not taxes on junk food and soft drinks would keep people from eating unhealthy foods. In contrast, most people tend to buy less junk food and soft drinks as not everyone are living an easy lifestyle. When these food and drink are much more expensive to purchase compared to the healthy foods, then fewer people will buy it. The society will tend to spend some time to prepare their own food from their houses. For example, they will cook the food in their houses which contain more nutrition and fewer calories compared to soft drinks and junk food. They will find the implements on their health when they consume house made food rather than consume junk food and soft drinks which is not
In the article “The Fat Tax,” Jonathan Rauch ironically discusses the new public policy concern with obesity. Although the article is a satire, it’s economic analysis is actually valid. In order to get his point across, Rauch uses sarcasm, appeals to logos, and degrades the issue of obesity to help Americans better understand the “big picture.” Moreover, if the diet of American consumers does not change then maybe advertising more exercise to lose weight will cut down the obesity rate; but to be just as effective, enacting the fat tax will improve health as well.
The main contributor, widely reported by top experts, is the consumption of cheap, and convenient foods such as fast food and the myriad of boxed foods available in the supermarket. Diane Brady asserts in her essay, “The Employer-Friendly Case for Pricer Big Macs” that “Of all the reasons why a third of U.S. adults are obese, the lure of cheap, unhealthy food ranks near the top” (519). With continual attention being given to the effects of unhealthy foods on adults and especially young people, one would think that America would wise up and stop consuming it at such an alarming rate. Again, Brady points out that, “Fast food chains have raised their game with healthier menu offerings and support for programs that encourage physical activity, but they continue to thrive by selling high-calorie food. McDonald’s salads, introduced in 1987, make up just 2 percent to 3 percent of U.S. sales” (520).
Therefore, the government shouldn’t have any say in what we eat or what nutritional values we take in. One reason is that we don’t get enough nutrition. Another reason is that some kids go home hungry because they don’t get enough income from their homes to afford food. Lastly, obesity rates have only dropped a slight amount which is not enough to make a difference.
This is largely because it is less time consuming and less expensive too eat unhealthy. Poorer consumers are often price sensitive to
The more popular it becomes to be healthier the more the prices of fruits and vegetables rise. No matter where you are in the world the healthy food will usually cost a lot more than the unhealthy food. There is not much of a difference if you are at the grocery store or at a fast food restaurant. Most people are always on the go, moving fast which makes it harder to find time to prepare healthy meals.
Americans today are well-known for their eating habits. With all the options the food industry gives us it makes it hard to go to the grocery store and resist picking up that bag of barbeque-flavored chips or blueberry flavored candy. Due to these processed foods obesity is a growing epidemic in our country and who is to blame for it? In an article entitled “What You Eat is Your Business” by Radley Balko, Balko argues for less government intervention. Balko believes is it our responsibility to take care of ourselves and make it a priority.
Junk food is responsible for the growing rate of obesity. This is outlined by David freedman in his article of “How junk food can end obesity.” David Freedman has credited the “health-food” motion, and followers of it along with Michel Pollan. Freedman claims that if the America desires to stop the obesity epidemic, or at least reduce its effects, they must shift to the fast meals and processed meals enterprise for assist, now not the “health-food” movement.
Raising the minimum wage will ruin our economy. Look at the big picture, businesses and companies will struggle or close, poverty will increase, and the price of consumer goods will rise. There are a few things that let economists know how the economy is doing at the moment. They’re called economic indicators, and 2 of them are consumer confidence and unemployment rate. The more people that are unemployed, the less money being used to buy things which hurts the economy.
If changes are not made now, then people will soon be living shorter lives and suffer most of their life from obesity and the health issues that come with it. The Government should regulate what Americans consume in order to curb obesity rates and potentially save lives. Childhood obesity is a big issue that affects children every day. A third of the child population below the age of 20 are considered obese. The way Americans eat today and the lack of physical activity is leading to serious health risk that will continue to get worse as children age.
Action must be taken by the food industry in order to start eliminating the problems that are causing the society to deteriorate. There are countless health issues within America that continue to grow due to the fact that the food industry is not regulating the food being provided and sole enough. Obesity and being overweight are one of the many social issues that can be linked back to the food industry. While it is true that there are cases of obesity and being overweight due to lack of exercise or genetics, it is primarily the food that cause people to gain excess weight. So many foods nowadays contain surplus amounts of calories, fats, and sugar which have a direct correlation to weight gain.
Is having junk food in school really such a bad idea? Does it obtain a value that some schools lack? Junk food was provided in school, before the health program came into place, banning it from schools around the country. It was proudly served and allowed in school, and also sold for many school fundraisers. Although some people might say that junk food can be unhealthy, schools should allow, or serve, some junk food because it will make the kids want to eat school lunches more, it will bring in more money to the school, and it will give the students the calories that they need.
As a hole there should be more restaurants that promote healthy food choices. Obesity in the United States is out of proportion and something need to be don , not necessarily at the point of government intersection but this needs to be fix some way somehow. ”public health experts say that an unhealthy diet and the lack of exercise are still the two biggest culprits. ”-Felix gusson.
“Fast food restaurants have us hooked on to their tasty food. You See a lot of people buying fast food because how good it tastes. Well let me tell you it is not good for your health. Why do fast food places lower their prices because they know people will buy it if it doesn’t cost that much and most people buy it cause that`s how much they can afford”. Fast food places is a way to not cook every week I feel bad for people when I go to McDonald’s and ask them, do you know what you’re eating in they say
McDonald’s, KFC and Hardees are all examples of fast food companies that became well-known worldwide and they sell million meals every month, they attract teens and children mainly and they are getting addicted to it. Although fast food field has a huge profit it doesn’t mean that we should give fast food suppliers and restaurants the permission to do whatever they want. However, fast food suppliers should only care about the quality of their products not “people’s obesity”. Parents are responsible for the obesity in their children and they
For a will, the sugar-sweetened drink has been taxed and are improving people diet and there is a lot of research on junk food is taxed and how it can also improve people diet. In places were sugar drinks have been taxed the person paying for there drink is taxed but for junk, food researcher has shown that taxing the people will have no impact. If people are not taxed than manufacturers should be taxed, and studies have shown when manufacturers are taxed than they are more likely to increase prices which will stop people from buying junk food and look for healthier food. Junk food has caused an increased rate of obesity and one way the government is trying to fight this is by having fat taxes which tax just unhealthy food and sugar-sweetened drinks. When junk food is being taxed than people will more incline to buy healthy food and drinks, this is only possible when the manufacturers are taxed.
