If you really want to experience a full, lively, and interesting trip to Morocco, you should plan your trip so that you can visit it whenever there is a festival going on. Here is a list of some major events and festivals that you should definitely not miss if ever you plan to visit Morocco!

• Marathon des Sables. This is also called as the Sand Marathon. It is an exhausting race that lasts for 6 days and covers about 151 miles! It is set in the Sahara desert of Morocco and 30 countries with over 600 different competitors join it every year! During the race, the competitors have to carry their equipment by themselves and they have to cook their own food. This competition usually takes place in honor of a charity. Lastly, this is one of the most important festivals celebrated all throughout Morocco. Basically, Eid ul-Adha translates to Festival of Sacrifice. During this festival, Muslims commemorate Ibrahim (Abraham) and the trial he had to go through where Allah asked him to sacrifice his only son. To honor the show of faith that Ibrahim displayed during that time, Muslims slaughter an animal – typically a goat or sheep. The meat gathered during this slaughter is mostly handed away to other people. Eid ul-Adha occurs seventy days once Ramadan ends and after the Hajj (Mecca pilgrimage) is completed. This festival takes place in October.
