I am applying for Carnegie Mellon University and the American University of Sharjah, in order to study Business Marketing or Business Administration. Business is a long-standing passion of mine, and I am fascinated by how business organisations function in the modern international market. The application reflects my personal aspirations to both one day run my own business, and also to be an innovative leader within my field. One of the great plus points about your university is the blend between business within a local and international context. As someone who desires my own business, I seek the contemporary theory alongside the practical knowledge and skills that are essential for successful business today. For business study I feel the …show more content…
Reading transports you away from daily troubles and takes your imagination to new places and times. I also like to read into business and keep abreast of the news and events in business. Events in recent years have been very interesting and unpredictable after the financial collapse. I have read into the situation within the Euro zone and also watched the American budget crisis with interest. I wish to be seen as someone who has made a difference in life, someone who can come into a business with fresh ideas and inspiration. Business marketing, especially, connects into all aspects of culture, and it helps to see a variety of perspectives in order to connect to the national trends. Savvy marketing is aware of the nation it seeks to connect to. I find it interesting how a product can sell in one country using a particular marketing strategy, but the same strategy then fails in another; it is all about culture and opportunity. Thank You for reading my personal statement. I am very excited about this application and the possibilities for study with you in the next academic year. I know that I have the determination, the ability, and the enthusiasm, to succeed and I look forward to the opportunity to meet with you
Both Cristina Nehring and Sherman Alexie recognize that reading can be lucrative activity. However, Nehring and Alexie differ on why, and in what circumstances, reading is a beneficial investment of time. Nehring’s article faults society for exaggerating the intellectual advantage of casual reading. She writes that there are “two very different ways to use books”, with one-way superior to the other.
I think I am a good reader. I think this because my Lexile reading level is 807-957, which I think is pretty high for a 6th grader. By the end of the year I would like to increase my Lexile level to 980-1,000. The way I can achieve this is by reading harder books and having to understand the harder books. My highs of reading are I get to have down time, I get to interact with my characters, and I love the book I am reading right now, “Auggie and Me”, it’s the sequel to my favorite book.
In the text "Why I Read" by John Dufresne, I learned that reading opens up new worlds to an individual. Reading allows one to learn new things and to become a more knowledgeable and understanding person. It is much easier to be more understanding of people and their actions when you have more knowledge to be able to understand. The reading from my past that I most identify with is "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen. This novel taught me that when times are tough and the odds are against you, perseverance and ingenuity are the key to success.
In a recent survey by the google. The number of teens who actually read a book in the past year was 52% or more. I am one of those. As I consider my reading experiences, I realize they represent the journey I have to traveled, leading me to my current academic path.
Each book is a portal to a world you interpret on your own and that is usually the authors goal. I believe that reading is a worthy topic of discussion for some people in this generation because reading itself is hard to pinpoint due to the vast amount of different interpretation of readers. It may be beneficial to discuss this topic for people who were never enlightened on the stigma of reading and have an intention of possibly changing the world’s idea of reading. Especially with the lack of reading that is happening throughout this current generation. Some may argue that we, as a society, are reading more than ever due to technology.
Reading has given me remarkable adventures. It allows me to travel to places I’ve never been to and vicariously experience situations that I might’ve not experience otherwise. One day I could in outer space, trying to stop a meteorite
Since the technology is now fast-paced and keeps improving, reading is being taken for granted. Many people used to read for enjoyment in the previous decades, but now less people enjoy reading. I do not think we will be reading for fun in the next decade because of all the new advanced technology we will have. We as a society are too busy wondering what is happening on social media at the exact moment and what is on TV than sitting down and reading a book. Cheryl Barnett-Bey’s passage, “Read with Purpose,” is similar to my literacy story because I would skim through books just to get the assignments done.
Now that I am in college, reading plays a crucial role. However, it expands your comprehension, grammar, helps you broaden your vocabulary and challenge your mind with new words. Reading is a part of our daily lives, whether it is reading directions, texting or even social media. My feelings about reading have definitely changed during my life. Now that I am older, I am reading more and more and my favorite author is V.C Andrews.
If you do see me reading though, it has to involve something with fascination with excited, suspense, or even about love. One thing I do know about what’s happening to our reading is that people around the world is not reading as much as they should. Mainly because movies being made about the famous books instead. Also we are just getting plain lazy and distracted about what’s going on around us. Additional to that concept, society can lose majority of things if people read less.
One of the reasons Penn. State University is a primary candidate for my future studies is the diversity of the student populace, as I believe the number of unique cultures and peoples represented throughout the institution will be beneficial to myself and my peers. For most of my life, I have lived as the son of a member of the United States Air Force, and the diversity in the places that I have lived and the diversity of the people who lived there have deeply shaped my life. People of different religions, different races, and different heritages have lived around me throughout most of my life, and their ideas and ideals have influenced me. However, I realized how much I had taken cultural diversity for granted once my father retired from the Air Force and moved to our current location.
Reading makes up a huge part of me. It’s one of my favorite pass-times. Non-fiction books about tornadoes to teen fiction to Shakespearean plays, I love them all. Reading allows me to gain knowledge and glean faux experience about real life situations. For example, I have never experienced a real tornado devastating my town, but I can tell a person what a
Typically when I read literature, the topic has to really have me encaged in order to read. If the topic isn’t engaging it is difficult for me to keep reading. I typically like dramatic and funny pieces of literature. Sometimes if a piece of literature is talking about a weird subject then it keeps the audience engaged. I know if I find something weird, I tend to remember something better.
Reading is a truly beautiful thing that lets people be taken into another world with intriguing characters that will sometimes leave us thinking for days. Joyce Carol Oates quote, “Reading is the sole means by which we slip, involuntarily, often helplessly, into another’s skin, another’s voice, another’s soul.” explains everything about reading. I have never read a quote that sums up reading more and that quote explains everything when it comes to reading with me. I can get so lost in characters and books that might leave me obsessed for weeks. The Tempest by William Shakespeare and Frankenstein by Mary Shelley are two tales that can draw a reader into a different way of seeing the world.
