HUMAN COMPUTER INTERFACE – A PORTABLE WIRELESS DEVICE FOR THE DISABLED
Abstract
Human-Computer Interface (HCI) is an important area of research and development for the disabled. A portable wireless Human-Computer Interface which can be used for the disabled, having motor paralysis or who cannot use their hands in multiple applications is described. A new mouse is proposed as an input device for computers/laptops. The operation of this mouse is based on measurements of rotations of the user’s head and detection of eye blinks Horizontal and vertical movement signals are measured using an accelerometer placed on a cap/helmet .The eye blink detector setup is placed about 1cm above the right eyebrow and 2cm below the lower lid of the right eye

The development of computers and internet has become a part of our daily schedule such as people even use them for shopping, banking communication and various other purposes. But unfortunately people with severe disabilities such as paralysis of their upper body portions cannot properly use computer input devices such as a keyboard or a mouse to operate a computer. Human–computer Interaction (HCI) consists of the study, planning, and development of the interaction between people and computers. It is often considered as the integration of electronics engineering, computer science, behavioral sciences, and several other fields of study. The term of HCI was popularized by Card, Moran, and Newell in their seminal 1983 book, "The Psychology of Human-Computer Interaction", although the authors first used the term in 1980, and the first known use was in 1975. The term implies that, unlike other tools with only limited uses (such as a hammer, useful for driving nails, but not much else), a computer has many affordances for use and this takes place in an open-ended dialog between the user and the …show more content…
On the machine side, techniques in computer graphics, operating systems, programming languages, and development environments are significant. On the human side, communication theory, graphic and industrial design disciplines, linguistics, social sciences, cognitive psychology, and human psychology such as computer user satisfaction are significant. Engineering and design methods are also relevant to improvise the development of the device. Due to the multidisciplinary nature of HCI, people with different backgrounds can contribute to its success. HCI is also sometimes referred to as man-machine interaction (MMI) or computer-human interaction (CHI) in different situations. Attention to human-machine interaction is very important, because poorly designed human-machine interfaces can lead to many unexpected problems. A very good example of this is the Three Mile Island accident where investigations concluded that the design of the human-machine interface was least partially responsible for the

The introduction of personal computers in the 1980s and 1990s revolutionized the way that people worked and communicated, allowing for greater efficiency and productivity. The widespread adoption of personal computers during this time period led to the creation of new industries such as software development and computer
Ms, Kuzma presented the Attorney General’s position on human trafficking. The AGs office defines sex and labor trafficking as when traffickers use force, fraud, or coercion to control other people for the purpose of engaging in commercial sex or forcing them to provide labor services against their will. The AGs office is very passionate about this issue and was an influential member of the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) announced to focus of their efforts on ending human trafficking across the United States back in 2011. In the NAAGs efforts they created the Pillars of Hope: • Pillar 1) Making the Case: Gather stat-specific data on human trafficking and create a database that assists local authorities with identifying human
Other safety hazards that occurred during the Challenger preparation and take-off period were the practice of normalization of deviance, no rescue system in place for astronauts in case of emergency, and the crew wore simple spacesuits instead of pressurized oxygen spacesuits to keep crew members alive if they had to escape. III. Body Paragraph #2: Topic sentence: Engineers redesigned the shuttle and carefully analyzed what changes should be made in response to the accident.

The author begins this essay very extensive. He then begins to reduce it down by using specific reasons. To prove his argument, Carr uses various of different reasons, and experts. For example: Computers, typewriters, and the human brain. Carr’s tone is very morphart.
By definition, computer-mediated communication (CMC) is communication about or by means of computer technology (Thurlow, Lengel, & Tomic, 2004). The transition of computers from highly specialized technology to personal possessions contributed to the increase in investigations relating to CMC (Thurlow, Lengel, & Tomic, 2004). The study of CMC has been widely applied, allowing for discussions of all forms of human communication via the means of a computer. Some of those disciplines through which CMC has been studied include psychology (Gackenbach & Ellerman, 1998; Kiesler, Siegel, & McGuire, 1984), politics (Dahlberg, 2001; Hacker & van Dijk, 2000), and education (Berge & Collins, 1995; McComb, 1994). In addition, CMC has also been widely studied

Introduction Person-in-Environment Framework In our practice as social workers, we are urged to view and understand human behavior as a set of complex interactions between individuals and their environment. This is known as the person-in-environment framework. This framework encourages us to acknowledge the influence of environment on our lives and provides a beneficial framework to think about and understand human behavior (Hutchinson, 2017). Understanding our work from this perspective allows us to approach our clients from a multi-dimensional stance, taking into consideration how various factors, including but not limited to, race, class, age and gender create individual identity and shapes an individual’s experience in the context of
Accessibility is a concept that essentially applies to the customization of products, services, appliances and environments in a way that enables them to be used by people who have various types of disabilities. Effectively speaking, these products and services are designed in such a manner that enables people with special needs to gain both ‘direct’ as well as ‘indirect’ access to them. At the same time, the benefits of accessibility also extend to a wider category of individuals such as senior citizens and medical patients. Assistive technology is a term that is closely associated with the concept of accessibility. For instance, the application of assistive technology is what makes electronic equipment such as computer screen readers accessible to all categories of end users, including those with disabilities or special needs.
