Animals are not ours to use for food, clothing, entertainment, experimentation, or any other reason. As Human beings we are often concern about many things in our surroundings. We are always aware that what is going on in the world around us and what we can do to make this world a better place and to achieve our happiness as well as the people we love, but it is really rare and as of for myself, I can say that, we are careless about what is it that animals have to go through for our own happiness. In my opinion, happiness is momentary, yet, we are always on the search for total happiness. There is no way that we can achieve complete (total) happiness when there is so much to deal with, like for example, Utilitarianism. For this essay, I will …show more content…
According to Singer, the fact that we as a human specie, have a mind to think and have the ability to communicate, and are also privileged in many other things which animals are not, does not mean that we have to treat animal as if they are less and this also does not mean that we should decide in what they deserve when it is our happiness which we are only thinking about. The only reason for equality cases to exist between man and women is because, they belong to human species, in other words, animals are less than human beings. Singer argues for this by pointing to variation among humans. If we look at the usual characteristics that all human share, we will find that there are human beings who lack of certain characteristics. It’s a fact that humans come in different shapes and sizes. We all have different morals, intellectual abilities, experiences and different ways of communicating with others. The only characteristic that all of us (humans) have in common is that we all are members of the same species. We can’t only say that all humans are the only creatures that are morally important, because then it is simply based on the species
Some will blindly accept their lack of freedom but others will vehemently fight for their right to pursue happiness, would you? The story of Animal Farm follows a group of farm animals that revolt and drive away their human leaders. They change the new system and proceed to create a system where all animals are equal. This can be compared to the society of Anthem where people's rights are restricted. Freedom and will is taken away and directed towards the common goal of always helping others and being a group.
As the human, we stand at the top of the food chain. Thus, we can do whatever we want. We start to use animals to improve our lives. For example, we use animals’ furs to keep us warm in winter. Unfortunately, at the beginning of this cruel thing happens, the public just treat it as the luxury business since it is so expensive and not everyone can own it.
What distinguishes humans from animals is the sense of virtue and morality, yet some people
Sarah Harrington Mrs. Rechan English 4 15 February 2022 The Controversy of Service Animals. Many people believe that service animals are the angels of this earth. Yet some people debate, what should and shouldn’t be able to take this angel title? We all know that dogs are the main symbols of supporting animals, yet many people argue, why can't we have other animals as well?
Singer’s argument in favor of the claim that speciesism is false can be formulated as follows. Singer prefaces his argument with examples of how minority groups have in the past presented their respective (yet similar) arguments for their equality in society. He continues to explore the idea that the differences between races and genders should not be discerning factors in the decision of who get which rights; because all subcategories fall under the same grand category (the species they belong to), they should all have the same rights. However, as Singer points out, for most people, the differences between humans and other beings are significant enough to be reflected in the set of rights that each cohort has [doesn’t].
Humans may not need to eat meat in order to survive, yet doing so is part of our evolutionary heritage, reflected in the design of our teeth and the structure of our digestion” (Pollan). It’s in our nature to eat animals; we have been doing it since the beginning of time. Peter Singer sent an email to Pollan regarding the animals that lived on Singer’s Good Farm, saying, "I agree with you that it is better for these animals to have lived and died than not to have lived at all” (Pollan). Getting the chance to live is indeed better than to not live at all, regardless of your lifespan, unless that life is filled with nothing but torture and turmoil. I mean why even treat animals any better than how they treat each other.
A life is a life, i think that every living organisms on this planet that are breathing are important and we all should treat others with respect and with love. Animals are like us, not physically, but they can feel pain and lonely when we mistreated them in some ways. I believe humanity has the ethical obligation to change their behavior towards animals. In the article, “ A change of Hearts on Animals” written by Jeremy Rifkin stated some of his key points that humans should focuses more on animals’ feelings.
Animals are great and make our lives better but when they are suffering and all we can do is extend their pain for a few months and pay thousands of dollars it just isn’t worth it. Americans nowadays spend money on tons of things that aren’t worth it, but spending thousands of dollars on dying animals is ridiculous. Furthermore, people even treat their animals as family like for example “Eighty-Three Percent refer to themselves to as their parents pet’s mom or dad” (The Last Meow). As a former pet owner I can say that it is ridiculous how people consider animals as their family and use that to justify spending thousands of dollars to keep them for a few months longer.
To illustrate, zoos and animal circuses aren't needed to fulfill someone's happiness. There are many other activates that do not involve anyone suffering or being forced. “ Instead of switching exclusively to human performers—who perform by choice rather than force— the 146-year-old institution continued to bully animals” (DeRose 1). In addition, Fur from animals is a trend in the fashion industry, but animals should not have to suffer to have their fur used to be shown off. “Several years ago, the Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously to ban the use of bullhooks on elephants, and the City of West Hollywood banned the sale of fur products” (DeRose 2).
Animals are not the tools for human to abuse. Human should treat the animals with respect and equally. There is not a big difference between human and animals. Sometimes, animals have the ability to show the emotions and feeling such as happy, sad, scared or even pain. Besides the basic emotions, the animals are able to form a strong and reciprocal bond to humans or to animals.
Most of those animals had happy lives. They were outside and were free ranged animals. Animals have an equal right to this world as does humans. Animals shouldn’t have to suffer, living in the plant factory is unfair and brutal. All animals have feelings, they have a right to kind treatment, and a right to live in this world.
Imagine a day in the life of a common farm animal. Far from the peaceful grazing life one would envision, the livestock of today endure horrific conditions - from suffering painful diseases to being separated from their mothers at too young of an age. Not only are these conditions harmful to the animals, the food produced by them is unnecessary to humanity’s well-being and can even be damaging to society’s overall health. Since the definition of ethics is having well-founded standards of right and wrong, this process of producing meat for our consumption is unethical.
Animal Rights Some people assume that just because animals cannot speak that they cannot feel pain. It is not okay to torture living beings that have their own thoughts and breathe the exact same air us humans breathe. It is unjust and selfish to stand by and take no action while everyday hundreds if not thousands of innocent animals die without reason. No matter how much fur or how many limbs the creature has; it should be treated as equal as a person. A heart beat is a heartbeat regardless of the body it’s in.
Animal Lives Matter Animals are dying from millions of subjected tests every day. All these helpless animals can do is be used and wait till they are no use to us anymore. It is pretty sad one day it’s going to get to the point where the people test on ourselves. Just because scientists or college students need to find a cure for a disease or just simply anything does not mean we need to sacrifice the poor animals in this horrible way. Now there are only three main things to talk about which is people need to know how many animals have been tested on, the drugs that have been used on them and what to do to stop animal testing.
On the one hand, some people are favorable for killing animals. It has many opinions why they have accepted. Their reasons with cruelty make them get many benefits such as nutrient, knowledge, safety, prevention, and money. The first reason for killing animals is humans killed them for consuming such as pork made from pigs, beef made from cows, and lamp made from sheep. Human’s life exists to cause by plants and animals.
