Human services is uniquely meeting human needs and focusing on the preventions and solutions of problems. To fully comprehend the future of human services we need to look at how human services was formed. We also need to see how human services have changed over the years and the way human services are now. By looking at the past and the present we will have a good perception of the route human services is taking and how this affects us.
In this paper I will describe the criteria and strategies for termination of case management. I will also discuss how independent care will help in continued client growth. The process focuses on discontinuing case management when the client transitions to the highest level of function, the best possible outcome has been attained, or the needs/desires of the client change.

My understanding of Human Services is to help people who need additional help and guidence to move forward with their life. Sometimes people need help with external problems such as the loss of a job, the need for food or housing or for help getting out of a dangerous situation or mental and physical health crisis. The Human Services practitioner is a professional who acts as an agent to assist and or empower individulas, groups, families and communities to help them function more effectivly in all areas of life and improve living condition. Human Service professional will always advocate for their clients and will never give up on them and make sure to strive for the clients well being as long as the client want to change.
First of all, I had the opportunity to interview Kim Bartells who’s a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) in Michealsen Health Center and learn more about her role as a social work. Before I started interviewing Kim, I asked her if it was alright with her if I recorded the conversation and she said it was fine with it. I started the interview with asking what type of population Michealsen Health Center serves and she told me it was mostly elderly people. Kim works in a “Microlevel intervention involves working with individuals--- separately, in families, or in small groups---to facilitate change in individual behavior or in relationship” (DuBois and Miley 69). This types of individuals she is working with are elderly residents “who utilize long-term care experience a combination of physical or cognitive limitation that require some level of assistance in activities of daily living” (DuBois and Miley 314-315) and their families as well.
Clinical Concepts –I did very well in meeting Client Needs (psychosocial), health promotion and maintenance, communication, and critical thinking. I need to improve on diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and meeting clients’ needs (physical).
The session 1 and 2 consists of the assessment of the client’s clinical problems and background information. Questions relate to her clinical problems, including (a) the nature of her problems (depression and difficulty with making decisions), (b) reason of seeking psychotherapy, and (c) previous attempts to deal with the problems. For the background information, the client’s histories are assessed in the areas of intimate/family relationship, educational/vocational activities, past history of psychological treatment, and physical condition. Session 3 primarily consists on the further functional assessment around her coping skills (e.g., avoidance) in the areas of interpersonal relationships.

As a human service professional I would have to intercede differently with a client who has a diagnosis of AIDS from a client who has been diagnosed as HIV positive for many reasons. HIV is a virus that gradually attacks the immune system, which is our body’s natural defense against illness. AIDS is a syndrome caused by the HIV virus. It is when a person’s immune system is too weak to fight off many infections. Dealing with a person with HIV it would be best to provide support and hopes, making sure medications are being taken to prevent this from turning into AIDS. According to Kanel (2014), crisis workers and counselors can help society by understanding how those infected and not infected can reduce the risk of spreading the virus, giving ideas of how to reduce the risk of infecting others that counselors can share with clients who may be at risk of spreading or being infected by HIV. I feel dealing with someone who has AIDS would be fairly difficult but it is important to show as much empathy as possible and be supportive encouraging the client to take medications so that they may live as long as possible. Through avenues such as culture fit, position qualifications, and performance, management has a consistent and reasonable basis for adjustments, promotions, and terminations. However, when organizations make such judgements without this strong basis, they open themselves up for potential discrimination claims, litigation, and monetary judgements. One such controversial case is St. Mary’s Honor Center versus Hicks. Presented is the main issues of the case, variables at play, an assessment of the outcomes, and recommendations going forward.
The case study of Nick, paints the picture of a young African-American man whose larger than life personae seems to be in sharp contrast with the realities of his existence. An uncharacteristic moment of genuineness and vulnerability, in which he expressed his feelings of depression and past suicidal thoughts to his doctor, has opened the door for Nick to delve into his mental and emotional issues with a therapist. However, his false bravado and self-created grandiose image, will most likely impede his ability to accept the needed treatment and potentially diminish the likelihood for a positive prognosis. A thorough familiarity with his diagnoses, background, cultural influences, treatment history and motivation to fully engage in the process are needed to develop an effective treatment plan for this young man.
This involves systematically examining survival skills, abilities, knowledge, resources and desires that can be used in some way to help meet client goals (Saleebey, 1996). The helping process from initial contact, goal identification, assessment and intervention to evaluation has the underlying assumptions that human beings have the capacity for growth and change (Weick, 1992), knowledge about one 's situation (Early & GlenMaye, 2000), resilience (Garmezy, 1994) and membership (Walzer, 1983). The major focus in practice from the strengths approach is collaboration and partnership between social workers and clients. Other methods include environment modification and advocacy (Early & GlenMaye, 2000).
