Dear staff and delegates of Kawana Waters State College, It is with my upmost honour, and pride that I announce to the college that I have been successful in gaining a position at the National Youth Science Forum 2017. After a thorough application process of submitting expressions of interest and formal letters, endorsements by local Rotarians and ending with the district interview yesterday, I have received confirmation that I will indeed be attending this well-respected and prestigious science forum. In this email I would like to briefly outline what is to come and acknowledge a few special people. I understand that this message is quite large, however if you have the time and are able to read this in its entirety, it would be greatly appreciated. …show more content…
It began in grade 9. I was fortunate to have a teacher who was an inspiration to every student she taught, not just the few achievers. In my spare time I created presentations on multiple subjects, mainly to do with astronomy. And this particular teacher allowed me to present these to my class, which would prove to be the first opportunity in a series. I was quickly recognised by the science department as a young and budding scientist. From here, I utilised both my position as student leader and my passion for science, to initiate an event that would become a staple in our school’s calendar year – National Science Week. The opportunities continue to this day: now leading another group of amazing young science ambassadors; Meeting one of Australia’s leading science communicators, Dr. Karl Kruszelnicki; and now slowly applying and being accepted into three science camps at Australia’s leading universities, representing my school and community at state and national levels. And who do I owe it all to? That one inspiring teacher that I had when I was thirteen years old. Miss Kirstin Janz. But she was not the only one. I also owe my success to my mentor and Head of Science – Mr. Jim Bailey. But I would have never had the confidence or will-power to follow through with my passion if it wasn’t for the teacher who built me with all the qualities of a leader. With the confidence to stand up and speak. As influential as any science teacher, Mrs. Lisa Dever. I owe it to every person I have met along my journey, but these three outstanding people in
We have all traveled immensely different paths to get to this point in our lives; some speckled with good fortune and some darkened by tragedy, but nonetheless, each and every one of us have achieved something here tonight that should undoubtedly be celebrated. The diploma you receive tonight will be a token for the hard work you have put it. But remember this, receiving your diploma is not the destination, rather it is a milestone on your educational journey. Education is not a right for so many young people around the world, and so I encourage all of you to try and comprehend just how lucky we have all been over the years. We have been gifted by those who surround us tonight with an advantage for what is to come that is more powerful than anything any of us has ever possessed before.
I am grateful to all my teachers for teaching me valuable information about science, but I am desperate to know more. It will prepare me for my future interests and the knowledge will be extremely beneficial. During the service-learning opportunities, I am willing to do more than the 10-hour minimum to benefit the community as much as possible. I want to be a benefit to the community while expanding my knowledge in science as well. Though I have full schedule ahead of me, I promise to prioritize SNHS because it is my enjoyment and an opportunity
From Mr. steal yo’ crayons to a young 18 year old man. Truly thankful to have been able to maintain focus and strive closer to my goals each and every day. A major accomplishment that I have attained so far, would be competing and being selected to represent Oregon at various symposiums and conferences throughout my high school career. Thus far, I have been granted scholarships and have had the ability to travel to large cities and beautiful states such as Camarillo, California; Chicago, Illinois; Washington D.C.; and will soon be travelling to Atlanta, Georgia. From conducting scientific field studies around Channel Island University in California to strolling down the streets of D.C. using a blend of my Hispanic and American mindset to present
Hello, Singh. How are you doing? How was your night? I hope you had a restful night and a splendid and safe day. About your message from yesterday, I told you that I read it slowly and paying too much attention in every word you wrote.
Fortunately, I have been able to participate in STEM enrichment programs outside of my community such as NCSU’s Caldwell Fellows SATELLITE Camp, PARI Summer Space Camp Connect, and Appalachian Regional Commission-Oak Ridge Laboratory STEM Academy. These experiences were pivotal in the development of my passion for the preservation of the environment, ultimately leading me to pursue a career in a related field. Recognizing the need for more exposure to STEM within my community, I hope that with the knowledge, skill, and resources I gain from receiving the Goodnight Scholarship and education from NC State University, I can provide my community a gateway into gaining more knowledge about STEM and what it has to offer. I hope that I can use my experience to be a motivator for students throughout my community, supporting them to participate in STEM opportunities through
Please accept my sincerest congratulations on winning the 2016 “Tennessee Teacher of the Year Award.” I am very proud of you. Being recognized for this incredible honor is indicative of the high-quality teachers throughout the Kingsport City School System who serve the students each and every day and ensuring their success not only in the classroom, but also in life. I commend you for the enormous impact you have on your students through your tireless and steadfast commitment and your exceptional teaching. I am quite confident you have truly made a difference by inspiring and assisting many students to grow emotionally and academically, and I know you have left an imprint forever in their hearts.
Though I have had many achievements and disappointments, one thing that I have always been proud of is my ardor for everything that I do. The Governor’s School for Science and Math offers a rigorous path to pursue, but it is the one that I have dedicated myself to for many years. GSSM opens up a myriad of new doors for me; it will provide me with opportunities some people would never even dream of. My lively personality will fit in perfectly with GSSM’s positive environment and, in spite of the necessary sacrifices, the reward far outweighs the cost. My dynamic personality will contribute to the society of The Governor’s School in various ways.
I designed and prepared many of the materials that communicated procedures, expectations, and deadlines for the Science Fair. I facilitated the evaluation of the evening and identified items that worked for the staff and community as well as ways to improve for the 15-16 events. Preparations have already begun for the 2015-2016 Science Night events. Currently, I part of a curriculum review committee. I have engaged in conversation with my colleagues about best practices in math and helped facilitate conversations at the building level to identify the ideal program for our needs.
I am eager to attend the USNA Summer STEM due to my strong interest in all disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. My future plan is to attend the United States Naval Academy, study Nuclear Engineering and serve my country for life. Over the past six years, I have served my country in the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps. I have accumulated a vast knowledge of the STEM field during my numerous week long trainings at Naval Base Coronado, MCB Camp Pendleton, SS Lane Victory, & Pt. Mugu Naval Air Station.
My high achievement in extracurricular activities and the variety of courses I take in this field further prove that I should be selected. I don’t just learn science, but I think science, continually questioning the concepts behind
Good morning, I welcome you all here today to the 2015 Science National Honor Society Induction Ceremony. I am honored to been asked to speak and to celebrate this wonderful occasion. I would like to congratulate to the students for being honored today for your achievements in leadership, community service, scholarship, character and your enthusiasm on science which are shown through hardwork and dedication that each of you has displayed. In addition, I would like to congratulate
After summer break, I returned to Westlake High School for my junior year, feeling as if something was missing. The decision to spearhead the creation of a chapter of the Science National Honor Society (SNHS) at my school arose because of my desire to establish a niche where high school students could express their shared passion for the sciences. The SNHS would provide enlightening scientific activities and opportunities for students, and the Science club would serve as a path to introduce members into the society. I initially proposed the creation of the society in a meeting with the Principal and Board of Education. Quite a few obstacles had to be overcome to start a new organization in the school.
Six years later I maintained my unwavering passion for science and love for the science center. After entering high school and discovering that I had to volunteer with a non-profit, I knew the
