One of the main and major steps towards a green environment is reducing the carbon dioxide gases from automobiles. New technologies have been on the market for the past years, from pure electric cars, hydrogen-fuel cars to Hybrid cars. Hybrid cars are best known for their long mileage and combining the reliable petrol engine and the eco-friendly electric motor. Toyota Prius has proved to be the most successful Hybrid car throughout the years, according to Hybrid Synergy Drive (2012). Referring to the article hybrid vehicles by Jeffrey Orloff (n.d.), a hybrid car is the car that uses both a rechargeable battery and gasoline for energy. The consumption of fuel used in these cars is much fewer than most conventional cars and produce less emissions of greenhouse gasses. He also mentioned that some hybrid vehicles recharge their batteries by capturing the energy through constant braking. And “some other hybrids use the combustion engine to generate electricity by spinning a generator to either recharge the battery or directly feed power the engine.” The battery recharges when cruising or by light…show more content…
Many researches and improvements were taking place in that time. Karl Benz and Henery Ford were two of the most excited people about the car. They improved the idea and started manufacturing cars all around the world. Hybrid cars are the new generation in the car industry. Before the invention of the combustion engine, Henry Ford was the first man to invent a steam-powered engine in 1865, after his great discovery, Karl Benz created the combustion engine in 1886 and people started using it until this day. Oil is a depleted source of energy and ultimately the world needs another source of energy for their transportation.
However, sales of Hybrids still face hard increment. Although car manufacturers are strongly advertising to their new Hybrid cars, few people think that Hybrids are the best choice. (Glinton, 2011) thinks otherwise: “That’s far from the truth” he said, “Hybrid sales are under 3 percent of 13 million cars sold in the U.S.”. One of the biggest barriers for increasing sales is consumer acceptance of buying a
