HYDRAULIC BRAKES

The brakes that are activated by the hydraulic pressure (pressure of a fluid) are referred to as hydraulic brakes. Hydraulic brakes are usually utilized in vehicles.

PRINCIPLES OF HYDRAULIC PRESSURE

A Frenchman named Pascal discovered that pressure applied to any a part of an inside fluid transmits to each alternative dispense with no loss. This principle is employed within the operation of four-wheeled hydraulic automobile brakes. once the treadle is pushed and also the piston within the hydraulic brake cylinder is forced against the fluid therein cylinder. This push exerts pressure on the fluid because it did on the dentifrice within the tube. The pressure on the fluid within the hydraulic brake cylinder transmits through the lines to the brake cylinders in every wheel. This fluid below pressure pushes against the pistons in every of the brake cylinders and forces the brake shoes out against the drums.

Application in Hydraulic Brakes
The wheel cylinder of hydraulic drum brakes acts as a double hydraulic press, increasing the force on the fluid by the magnitude relation of the world of the cylinder to the world of the provision line.

Materials:
• 1 Large syringes
• 2 Small syringes
• 1 Length of short tube
• 2 Lengths of long tube
• 8” x 8” piece of cardboard
• 1 Toy wheel with Axle
• 2 Hand held pink erasers
• 2 Wooden blocks
• 2 Wood connectors
• “T” Connectors

Procedure:

• Cut a circular disc from the 8”x 8” cardboard - This will be the brake rotor.

• Attach the brake rotor to the axle and wheel using tape/glue/etc.

• Insert the axle into the wooden block and make sure that the wheel, axle and rotor are rotating.

• Attach the 2 wood connectors to the 2 small syringes using glue.

• Secure the 2 hand held pink erasers to the syringes. These will act as the brake pads.

• Attach the 2 syringe assemblies to the remaining wooden block ensuring that the syringe plungers can move freely.

• Attach the 2 lengths of long tube to the syringe assemblies and the “T” connector.

• Attach the length of short tube to the “T” connector and the large syringe.
