“The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it from you” (B.B King). As my icon I can say that student who succeed and have a poor economy inspire me to succeed in college because that is my goal, to start and finish college strong. To my perspective I feel that having the opportunity to go to college is unique to me, because not every student has the opportunity to go to college. But, at the same time it depends on the student because for some student’s school is not priority and their excuse to not go to school because their excuse is that they have a poor economy, when they could be getting financial aid, and pay their education, anyways I am not judging anybody, I am just trying to say that each student is responsible for their education. I have learned from other students how I need to deal with college to succeed, I must take it day by day, do my work, and finish college strong. …show more content…
My family is my number one supportive system, and thanks to them I am motivated, and confident to keep working on my education. My education is my number one priority, and whenever I am having a big test and I need to study, and my family wants to hangout I always end up staying home to study. Sometimes we have to make sacrifices to do good on your test, or to finish your assignments. In my case I am the only child in my family, so it’s kind of weird because I am the only child in my family, and telling my parents that I can’t hang out with them it makes me feel like I am a bad girl, but then I think staying to study is for my own goo. Anyways, what I am trying to say as my icon is that every student is responsible of their education, and we have different inspirations why we want to
Some can’t get what they want from the hard working, but it also depends on their race and their past. For example, according to US news, the Pruess high school is most disadvantage schools in California as 99.6 percent students live in the poverty. In America, all the kids have equal chance to go to school, but many students don’t have equal chance to go to the best school because of their poverty. Born in a poor family is a disadvantage, and then going to low rate school is a second challenging to transfer to college, so university is just a dream for some body. In other
Is College Really Worth the Cost? Most American goal in life is to earn a living when they come out of high school. But, maybe it isn’t really necessary that high school graduates need to feel ad if they are being rushed off to college. People who are hustled off to college discover that they would much rather be learning how to build things or fix things. College students and graduates are facing debt, unemployment/ drops in wages, and some would rather learn with their hands.
“Poverty must not be a bar to learning and learning must be an escape from poverty” this was said by Lyndon B Johnson in 1964 and the problem he was addressing back then, has grown and become far larger and more destructive. The average Canadian student acquires 27,000$ of debt trying to earn what in our society today is necessary, to live a safe, happy and fulfilling life. Without higher education you are not likely to be able to do what you want with your life. Within the last two decades university prices have doubled and along with it so have interest rates. This enforces and maintains the trend of the rich staying rich and the poor staying poor; because of the high price less wealthy people are unlikely to be able to afford university and get a good job.
In my intermediate family not everyone went to college and today they still struggle to find a job that pays them well and can finance them for the things they wish to have. Where my eldest aunt went to college and earned her master’s degree and worked a job she loved that payed well and gave her the opportunity to live happy and comfortably. College does not prepare you for a life of bills and credit but it does prepare you for the profession you are aiming
Studying at university is an expensive investment. Tuition fees have a disincentive effect on the students who from the lower and middle-income families. As Bruenig states the statistice of the college students from the poor and rich families “ At age nineteen, only around 20 percent of children from the poorest 2 percent of families in the country attend college. For the richest 2 percent of families, the same number is around 90 percent. ” Also, most of those students want to achieve better lives so they attend the higher education.
There is many people that go to college, but because of the cost they don't get through college. The elevated costs of college cause not only students to struggle paying for college, but also to struggle financially paying for college when they are done. In many cases, after graduating, young adults who don’t find a job will become poorer, increasing the gap between the rich and the
Many people dream of a life filled with riches, but that dream is hard to obtain without a college degree. It is somewhat ironic how people dream of being a successful student and going to college but the cost of tuition turns that dream into a horrible nightmare. It is not a shock to most people when they that college tuition is expensive, but in the past few years it has increased to an all-time high. Lower and middle class students have now begun to realize that college tuition is holding them away from their dreams. Even though college tuition could provide opportunities for job creation and economic growth, tuition is not affordable for the average American household which in effect, prohibits students from taking opportunities like going to college in the first place.
Sudents who have not financed their own education don’t appreciate the great opportunity that has been give to them. For example, being a freshman in college I recall my indifference towards a free education. The social aspect of college was fascinating, the clubs, and organizations on campus consumed all my time. The parties with good-looking guys dancing shirtless to the latest song, ice cold beer
And in between, students are driven to take low paying and high paying jobs against their own consent, their interests are altered, personal decisions must be taken according to financial situations, and people dare to reject education (Choi, 32). Student loan debt weighs on billions of shoulders in the world and it is nearly impossible to be oblivious to all the harm that it has done and all the factors it takes part in affecting that it shouldn’t. If awareness could be raised and colleges would only consider to at least reduce tuition rather than eliminate it, that would still help do the nation well and commence improvement. An education must serve to inspire imagination and to motivate creativity in as many fields as possible. A society that is excellent is a society that presents opportunities for each and every member.
Yet the amounts of financial aid they receive are generally never enough for most students, and they continue to carry the debt for most of their miserable life. The ideal adult working life that most people desire is probably the one where they work hard to
If a person’s parent or guardian drilled the idea of college into your head, or if they told you ‘do what you want’ or ‘I don 't care’, or ‘You’re not going’. While college is great, there are other means of education. The value of college is a low because there are people who do not qualify for a college education, and also because there are other ways of post-secondary education other than college. College is not valuable because many people will not make it into a 2 or 4-year college, much less graduate from one. To support this, in the article Why College Isn 't For Everyone, it says, “As a general rule, I would use graduates in the top quarter of their class at a high-quality high school should go on to a four-year degree program, while those in the bottom quarter of their classes at a high school with a mediocre educational reputation should not.”
From the time we start our careers as students in school, we are told that in order to gains success in life we must attend college. That after high school, college is no doubt the next step we should be taking. Yet, for most students that are not wealthy this goal is almost unattainable. If the majority of students can’t afford tuition, then why is the tuition rate so high? Its certainly not an accident.
As a first generation student to attend college from a family of seven, the journey to a higher education has been arduous and overwhelming. My family gives me all the encouragement I need and are very optimistic about pursuing a higher degree. Unlike myself, my parents did not have the opportunity to attend college. My parents were born and raised in a small town in Mexico where the highest level of education they received was fifth grade. I have worked since I was 14 years old to support my parents with bills, and also saving for college and my own vehicle.
Secondly, a lot of students show hard work in the class room, but they also work hard outside of the classroom at their job. This hard work at their jobs allows them to get a job advancement. By getting a better job advancement means more money for the student that got the opportunity for advancement. When students think they are making good money because they make more money than they have ever made, they drop out of college thinking they can live on that pay for the rest of their lives. Job advancement is another reason why community college students leave college, they think they can make money and start a career without going to
Throughout my life, I have been criticized for my aspiration to pursue a greater education. Many people always tried to extinguish my confidence for being different. I chose not to be a follower as I avoided what many people in my family could not avoid; that is, dropping out of high school, to begin working and financially aid the family. The environment I have been living in has helped me become a motivated and disciplined person in order to attend college and earn a college degree. For years my family had to strive as my father has worked for over 25 years in order for my family to be financially stable and in order for me to have a chance at a college education.
