Version Launch of the existing car Overview Hyundai Motor India had launched the i20 as a premium hatchback and it has been on sale in the market since 2008. I20 was among the first cars in India to feature Hyundai’s fluidic design. The car was rich in its features and was available in both petrol and diesel variants. Hyundai has now introduced a new version of i20 by giving it a major makeover; it has revamped the exteriors of the car and revised the interiors renaming it as the Elite i20. However, the sweptback head-lamps and the sleek fog-lamps on the bumper help bring the much-needed 'cheer' to the hatchback's front fascia. The front fascia gets a broad but compact air intake with net design. The grille is the biggest element in the front and gets chrome surrounds similar with the one found in the Grand i10. The headlights are placed in such a way so as to give a swept back look to add to the sportiness of the overall combination of elements. The side profile stands out due to the strong shoulder line, the softly flared wheel arches and silver door handles. A new design element that Hyundai appears to have integrated is the blacked out B-pillar and C-pillar that gives an impression of a floating roofline. A single frame 3-D hexagonal grille accents the facade along with wide, trapezoidal fog lamps. Major features on the side include the two-tone 16-inch diamond cut alloys and chrome-accented door handles. The Elite i20 is available with petrol and diesel engine options for the customers to choose from. The petrol is the 1.2-litre kappa mill that also powers the Grand i10 and Xcent. It delivers 83bhp of power and 115Nm of torque. On the other hand, its diesel variant is equipped with a 1.4-litre CRDI mill churning out 89bhp and 219Nm of torque mated to a six-speed manual transmission gearbox is also the same. The petrol version is coupled with a 5-speed manual and the diesel with a six-speed gear box as before. Hyundai is still not offering an automatic just yet. While the Elite i20 seems the same as its predecessor going by these specs, an all new chassis and suspension package and also a new design, inside and out are the main factors for this i20 to feel like an improvement over its forerunner.
