Introduction
After the Second World War, Korea was one of the poorest countries in the world; however it has progressively transformed its self into an advanced economy knowledge economy. Korea has transformed its self into a technology hub, where leading technology companies like Samsung, LG operate.
Background of ICT Development in Korea
In June 1950 South Korea and North Korea entered into a civil war that lasted for about 3 years. South Korea suffered enormous damage to its economy and infrastructure as a result of the bombings, artillery strokes and loss of skilled labor. Much of the Korean resources i.e. industries and agricultural were ruined living millions of refugees. After the Korean war South Korea was able to modernize and industrialize with the help of different countries like United States, Germany, Japan and the World Bank by borrowing money. The borrowed money was used to import core technologies that were used to build industries.
