One international terrorist organization likely to conduct a terrorist attack in the United States is the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, also known as ISIL or ISIS. According to the Committee on Homeland Security, in all of 2014 the number of ISIS linked plots against western targets is 19. Since January 2015, until the Terror Threat Snapshot was released July 2nd, the rate has doubled to 28. Not only is this organization likely to conduct a terrorist attack in the United States, it already has and will continue to do so until they are stopped. ISIL has been around for many years and have gone by other names in the past. They use extreme methods of violence and terror to accomplish their goals and they are very organized. With a different name at first, ISIS became established in 2004. ISIS main goals is to expand control of territory and they want to overthrow the government in the regions they are controlling and to implement their violent interpretation of sharia law. ISIS has a very organized and well-structured leadership. This can prove to be very effective in accomplishing their goals and conducting attacks. Not only can it prove to be effective with their goals, but it also is effective to obtaining funding for their missions. The group uses criminal conduct to obtain the funding needed for their cause. They conduct illegal activity from smuggling to ransoming hostages, they use the funds that they receive to pay for supplies and their personnel who are conducting their activities. According to the National Counterterrorism Center, the group has more than 30,000 members not to mention the members they gain from expanding. The group also has sympathizers for their cause, meaning they could have someone not affiliated with their group just one day feel motivated to conduct an attack. ISIS also uses children as part of their army, where they take these children and basically brain wash them into believing their cause and fighting for them. For their attacks the group likes to use VBIEDs or regular IEDs and when their enemy stop as procedure calls for, they send out mortars to do even more damage. They also use psychological attacks to spread fear and then once people clear out and the area is softened, they move in to take control. Spread is feared through propaganda. ISIS has a twitter account and also post attack data frequently. Since the group is technology savvy, they are able to spread their propaganda to a much larger audience very quickly. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant is an International terroris organization that is likely to conduct a significant crime in the United
ISIS is not only a group to be feared, it is a group with power. ISIS controls over half of Syria’s oil asset, as well as multiple oil fields in Iraq. This oil is taken and sold on the black market by ISIS. The sales of oil on the black market bring in ISIS roughly three million dollars daily. In today’s world money means power, and looking at it in those terms means ISIS
ISIS is a clan formed in Iraq and they despise our country and the muslims located in it. ISIS is also responsible for a lot of bombings we hear about today. ISIS was responsible for a major terrorist attack on Paris a few months ago. Paris was bombed in a hotel and many people killed or severely injured during the terrorist attacks performed by ISIS.
Many terrorist groups are inspired by religious or prophetic scriptures. Al-Qaeda and IS are the two groups that are related to justify their extreme actions against non believers. The IS wants to establish a Caliphate which means an Islamic-ruled state. How different terrorist groups act is informed by what they are trying to achieve. The IS, al-Qaeda and the Army of God ( a Christian anti-abortion group based in the U.S. sometimes adopt a reactionary perspective aimed at stopping or resisting social, economic, and political charges.
Wherever Isis goes they kill and are a problem. Isis established in 2004 by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. He was close to Osama bin Laden, but he wasn't a part of Al Qaeda. Isis is a violent terrorist group who are determined to kill all Muslims that do not accept their brand of Islam.
Many of these terrorist are getting too close for comfort. A 30-year-old man ran a kiosk in the Orange Park mall in Florida. He "plotted to travel overseas to join the Islamic State" (Piggott.) The FBI has revealed 30 Americans have been arrested on accounts related to helping ISIS (Ashford.).
Al Qaeda has become its rival now. They had lots of money by pumping crude oil and selling it to markets in exchange for money to buy ammutations, supplies. They also got money by kidnapping and asking for ransom. Both al Qaeda and ISIS are a Islam extremist religion group. There are a lot of mass graves, up to 72, which may range from five thousand dead people to twelve thousand dead people.
After a terrorist attack of any kind there are always consequences that must be faced. Sometimes the point of the terrorist attacks is because the organization wished to send a message or to influence policy in their favor. However, after the 9/11 attacks administrators realized that the United States was not prepared for a tragedy of this kind and had little to no measures to prevent one, this lead them to create new programs and policies. Terrorist organization’s goal often comes down to one of the following: regime change, territorial change, policy change, social control and status quo maintenance. The main purpose of a terror attack may well be to influence public policy.
The Orlando nightclub shooter is evidence of this new threat towards Homeland Security. The shooter’s name was Omar Mateen and he carried out one of the deadliest shootings to date in Orlando, Florida at a nightclub frequented by the LGBT community. Omar just like many other self-radicalized terrorist pledge their allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) before his death. Upon further investigations by the government and media outlets, they concluded their was no direct link to ISIS. ISIS still claimed this cowardly act, but the only reason they would take ownership of this act is for exposure and recruiting.
Chiefly, the ISIS threats against the Middle-East is indistinguishable to the threats made to Cuba by Spain on April 25, 1898. The Middle-Eastern countries are threatened by the ISIS military and weaponry forces. Isil or “Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant” formed in 1999 and didn’t expose themselves until 2014, starting with beheadings of
The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria has been in control over a large amount of territory in the Middle East in recent months. Along with being a terrorist group, some say worse than Al-Qaeda, they are also in process of becoming the leaders to a possible World War III. The terror they have caused in recent months has never been witnessed before in history. ISIS is a different terrorist group than any other, being responsible for kidnappings, beheadings and deaths of thousands of innocent civilians. Although Obama has a plan in which ISIS shall be completely eliminated in a process of 3 years, most citizens do not agree with this.
ISIS today has built a global terrorist network. They have drawn recruits from 120 countries, and have killed 1,200 people in countries outside of Iraq and Syria over the past several years (Rosenberg, 2017). Today, Al Qaeda is currently on the back burner, after over a decade of war with the world’s superpowers are eventually going to wear you down and eventually lose the war. ISIS is also slowly weakening Al Qaeda, based on three things: Al Qaeda’s Syrian affiliate Jabhat al-Nusra (JN) has lost several hundred fighters in battles against ISIS and numerous fighters have defected to ISIS from JN.
Under the Social Control Theory, it involved criminological theories. Criminological theories means the organization have an intention to hurt others in order to have an interest for itself. ISIS in order to recruit more people from the world to join its organization, ISIS produces the high-impact video and chilling messages to grab the attentions from the people. According to Graeme Wood: “There is a temptation to rehearse this observation, that jihadists are modern secular people, with the modern political concerns, wearing medieval disguise, and make it fit the Islamic State.” The intention of ISIS is to have the attraction from the public, and planning to kill Foley.
The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria are known in today’s world as a rational group of terrorists. They are often referred to as ISIS or ISIL. They are responsible for many attacks not only in the Middle East, but some attacks on our own soil as well. A big attack happening only a year ago on France is an example of their brutality. ISIS will do whatever it takes to become this “super power” they are aiming for, even if that means attacking big countries to make their mark on today’s world.
ISIS has a lot of anger and that makes them terrorist. I believe that ISIS is a terrorist group, while others think it is a country. ISIS poses a direct threat to international safety and security, as they are the largest in land control and fighting size, and wealthiest terrorist organization
ISIS is growing so rapidly that they are known almost all over the world. They have gone from nothing to a very dangerous group. One of the reasons that ISIS is growing so fast is because they pay more money than other groups out in Syria or Iraq. Also because the ISIS group is already training small children to shoot, kill, and become suicide bombers. Children age 3 and older are educated by the Islamic government.
