Ignorance can be one of the most hurtful catalysts, which I can think of. Ignorance can cause one to say the first thoughtless perception a person has in their head. For example, a seventh grader learning about the Hindu religion and reincarnation in social studies class and then asking the only Indian student in the class if they were going to turn into a rabbit in their next life. Imagine, take yourself back to middle school, filled with insecurities, constantly changing body and your preteen attitudes; how would you react to such questions? Because of the closed-minded society that we live in, it is often hard to learn from other cultures which inevitably hinders our ability to understand one another.
Now given that this particular incident

One would say that it is in humanity’s genetic instinct to understand all three. However, knowledge cannot be passed down genetically when it comes to people. The past in which we learn about influences these behaviours and emotions. It is not the past which makes us, but rather the past that influences us. The story Kindred, written by Octavia E. Butler, helps give an insight on how certain behaviors, such as hate and racism, are developed and the conditions in which they develop in, specifically from Rufus whom Dana, an African American woman from the future,
In Guy’s case, he becomes a fugitive and joins Granger’s elite society. Both governments are fearful of the messages books can convey to citizens and the result of this message. This idealistic view that can be imparted upon people proves a book’s uncanny ability to immerse a reader into another world full of new knowledge, beliefs, and opportunities.
Discrimination against any race, no matter what the reason is always very wrong. In the book “Farewell to Manzanar” the Japanese-Americans were blamed for the attack on Pearl Harbor even though they had no part in it. The Jews in the the novel “Night” were targeted for absolutely no reason besides the fact that Hitler did not like them. Both races were sent away to be isolated from the world to different types of camps. While the concept of the camps were the same, they had very opposite living conditions.
Of that number combined 78% are African American, 12% Caucasian, 1.8% Hispanic; 1.2% Asian. In 2014 81% of students were African-American while Caucasians were 6%. So from 2014 to 2015 in one year it has grown 6% in Whites to attend this institution. What I can expect from looking at the other years growths in numbers and predict, is that it will continue to increase in diversity of other races as well. African-Americans wouldn’t be the only high race population that attends this
American perception of PWIs and HBCUs shows a difference. The misconception between the two has been serious and ongoing;, some may say “people only discredit HBCUs because of how people view blackness. So, when you speak of black institutions, people kind of turn their nose up. People automatically elevate PWIs because they’re white colleges and there’s this idea that a majority-white school is a quality,” Williams says. The idea that a PWI is better than an HBCU stems from the idea that white people are better and that they receive a higher education, when in reality theythey may be learning the same lesson.
Firstly, segregation of the Blacks and Whites. This is the result of stereotyping. Stereotyping is the linkage of a certain image or idea to people of certain groups, usually based on inadequate information. Since media is unable to show the public everything, decisions made by the media when showing a person or groups can reinforce stereotyping (Baran 438).
Of these three, the worst is mental dehumanization. Mental dehumanization is the worst because if you are mentally dehumanized, it can affect you physically and emotionally as well. Eliezer was affected most mentally. For example when his father was beaten, Eliezer says, “...I had not even blinked, I had watched and kept silent.” (Wiesel 39).
One of the biggest things the human race has created is society. How humans live, how they interact, what customs they follow, all of it becomes a part of society. But many negatives have arisen from society as well such as: hate crimes, racism, discrimination, and much more have all taken root in society. The roots run so deep that most modern day citizens are not even aware of their own preferences. One of the worse roots being stereotypes.
One being in our school system. Throughout history schools have sugar coated what is right and what is wrong. Many children do not get told that what they are saying could be offensive and the child continues to say it. From a firm belief, schools should train their staff or have programs that teach how to tell children about the racism problem happening around them. Schools also only focus on the large facts that some children might not understand.
Flames, teargas, riots, city blocks destroyed, in consequence to a statement. In today 's modern society, rude acts of communication known as hate speech, have become a controversial topic in America. Although hate speech is awful, it should be protected by the first amendment. Hate speech should be permitted because omitting such phrases would set a precedent for censorship and repress the minority. Such censorship would lead to a totalitarian rule by the majority .
“Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it” -George Santayana. Along with poverty, ignorance should be considered one big issue facing the world. Identifying these issues is very important, now that if adequate means are taken to stop or even prevent the issue (ignorance), our society will become a healthier place to live in. True, others may argue that economic crises, corruption, lack of energy and child labor are big threats to our community, but if you dig deeper, you will realize than in a certain way, ignorance ends up creating all of this problems. This piece will expose several reasons on why lack of knowledge is a big matter concerning the world.
However, there’s a certain perversion to admission policies like this, policies like UT’s “top 10” program. These policies leverage their racial diversity via neighborhood, and thus public high school, segregation. As Jamelle Bouie write in a Slate article on the
Many readers will easily recognize the expression "Big Brother Is Watching You." It is a reference from Orwell 's novel 1984 in which the country of Oceania tries their best to destroy the past and remake the future. Oceania tries many things to keep their people quiet and repressed so they cannot question the government 's authority. One example of how the government represses their people can be explained by the slogan Ignorance is Strength. "Ignorance is Strength" has played a significant role is George Orwell 's 1984.
Ignorance is bliss. Often people hide behind what they wish to believe. The truth demands discomfort and people prefer comfort to truth.(Compound) In this world of conditioning, the Controllers keep any kind of truth from the people. Regardless, very few actually attempt to discover the truth.
The way our societies view other cultures and spread the perceptions regarding them is an unfair practice. It causes discrimination and judgment to foster in the mind of the coming generations and they in turn spread these views even more and thus strengthen those perceptions. While I viewed culture as a part of one’s identity or genetics, I feel like I was rather apathetic to reality. Pride is a fault common in all human beings. We simply refuse to admit our mistakes when proven wrong.
