Ballet has influenced not only dancers but many other people throughout the world. From the beginning, ballet has had a significant impact on the performing arts for both the performers and spectators. It has played an important role in helping to shape the performing arts into what it is today. The creation and development of ballet brought about a new way of expressing feelings and telling stories as a part of performing arts and has been the foundation for many other dance styles.

Stravinsky’s compositions can be divided into three periods during his life; Russian Period, Neo-classicism and Post-war/Serialism. The Rite was composed during the Russian Period and it is here that we start so see a change in compositions throughout Europe as it set in motion towards Serialism. Rhythm, folk melodies, harmonies and form are all central points, it was through his innovative use of rhythms that Stravinsky came to be recognised by Sergi Diaghilev. The founder of Ballet Russes, Diaghilev discovered Stravinsky in Russia and invited him to compose for his ballets. It was here that Stravinsky developed his own style, which we see looming by his irregular rhythms in Firebird and Petrushka.

In Kate Chopin’s novel, The Awakening, the role of women in the late 1800’s is explored through Edna Pontellier, Madam Adele Ratignolle, and Mademoiselle Reisz. The Awakening was often condemned because they claim that Chopin did not punish “her adulterous heroine [Edna Pontellier]” (Davis). However, The Awakening is considered to be Chopin’s major achievement (Davis) and “ a novel ahead of its time…” (Davis). Chopin wrote The Awakening in third person and incorporated thoughts of the other characters, sometimes interjecting her own voice, but she never let the reader avert their attention from the main character, Edna Pontellier (Green).

Music helps people communicate how they feel when they just can't find the words to say it. It gives people a way to express who they are inside through many different forms. Music can be found throughout history. In this report I am going to discuss different musical periods in history with two artists or composers works representing that period.

Leon Trotsky was a big part of the Russian Revolution. He make big impact in Russian history. Trotsky was a man that was not afraid of stating his opinion or trying to make a change. He has such a edgy background and I doubt people would’ve really thought what a great impact he tried to make. He was not best of friends with either Lenin nor Satalin. CNN nominee Daniel Ivankovich is a man who is willing to step out and help his community by reaching out to those in need. Daniel is an orthopedic surgeon who wants to “heal Chicago’s mean streets one patient at a time”. Dr. Ivankovich’s main focus is to help the community in a different way than just helping the one’s who need medical care as he has witnessed terrible things in his community for 20 years. Dr. Ivankovich says it is not only the crime rates that make the living issues tough, but also the medical side of things.

Louis Armstrong was the most important soloist to emerge in jazz, he became one of the world most influential musician in history. Because of his styles and who he was made him different from everyone else. He wasn’t just a trumpet player but also a vocalist as well and a very good one at that. His upbringing played a major role into what made him the man who he was, also all the connection he made and had.

Prince is a director who was born on January 30, 1928. Prince, now eighty-seven, was also born in New York. His mother was a housewife and his father was a stockbroker, but when he was very young his parents divorced and amazingly his mother remarried another stockbroker.

George Balanchine was and is the most respected choreographer in the history of ballet. Not only did his astounding work influence his generation alone, but the entire future of generations to come. His accomplishments created a foundation for the world to build upon. What he did was take what was given to him, an established art form, and fine-tuned it. He took ballet and molded it into the perfect art form. His imagination brought him to such discoveries that no one else had thought of, and not only influenced a species of dancers, but the entire population.
